I have hashimotos & hypothyroidism as a result. I have been living in Australia where I take a combination of T4 (tiny dose) and T3 medication. I've recently moved back to the UK & the doctor want me to stop the T3 and just take T4 medication as they do not actively prescribe T3 anymore. My doctor has given me T3 to take me up until November when I have an appointment with the endocrinologist. I felt terrible on T4 alone and I am really scared that the T3 is going to be taken away from me.
I am going on holiday to Istanbul in a few weeks and wondered if you can purchase T3 over the counter still? Or if I take my current prescription with me are they likely to allow me to purchase T3?
Thanks so much.

Aside from if T3 can be bought over the counter there are a number of other ways to source T3 in the UK.
You can email info@thyroiduk.org for a list of T3 friendly Endo's. Make a new post asking for feedback on a few named Endos which will have to be via PM and the post locked.
There are prescribing pharmacies which are a cheap option.
And probably at least an equal number who get T3 on private prescription
Here’s link for how to request Thyroid U.K.list of private Doctors emailed to you, but within the email a link to download list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3
Ideally choose an endocrinologist to see privately initially and who also does NHS consultations
Another excellent thyroid website is TPA(UK) - Thyroid Patient Advocacy. Very informative and will give you all information re sourcing various meds. I’ve been a member for many years.
Maybe talk with Roseway Pharmacy - details on the Thyroid UK website Pharmacy page - thyroiduk.org -
they are supportive of thyroid patients and can likely prescribe on a copy of your Australian prescription - or simply have a consult, explain the issue, and let them prescribe and supply your T3 -
The Scottish Government run Scotland in matters that are devolved from Westminster and these include health care -
and why you will find it easier to get T3 prescribe north of Hadrian's Wall.
Within the UK it has become a post code lottery with many patients forced to source it themselves as it is refused or even stopped on existing prescriptions without even notice or a consultation.
