Am I hyperthyroid?

I am a 52-year old male and have been suffering from malaise over the past few weeks - shaking, sweating, insomnia and restlessness. The symptoms have been totally debilitating. I can’t even watch TV!

My latest blood test is all clear except my thyroid, which shows:

TSH 0.16 (range 0.3 - 5.6)

FT4 15.6 (range 6.3 - 14)

I don’t have the FT3 reading as this was not requested by my GP. I’m seeing my GP later this week and almost certain they will suggest repeating the test in eight weeks’ time.

I’d be grateful for any thoughts on whether these readings would be sufficient to cause the symptoms I’m suffering. My understanding is that low TSH and high FT4 suggest I’m hyperthyroid. If so, I don’t want to wait another 8 weeks to get this sorted.

Thanks

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested for Hashimoto's or Graves.

TSI or TRab antibodies tested for Graves' disease (unlikely to get Graves antibodies tested by a GP. Often only done by endocrinologist)

Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Private testing for suspected Graves - TSI or TRab antibodies

Afraid we can't second guess what your GP will suggest ..maybe propranolol and the other thing I cannot remember to suppress thyroid function? (Not sure if men have slightly different ranges as when hypo they often take larger thyroxine doses? Which may be another thread? )

No family history and I don’t smoke.

No history of thyroid. My mother has MS and I was born with a hole in the heart and am now fitted with ICD/pacemaker to control my rhythm. Apart from the odd ectopic, the rhythm has been fine. Also, aunt and great uncle had Parkinson’s. Otherwise, no other family history

Thanks. I contacted an endo yesterday and emailed him my results. He replied that he didn’t think this would cause my symptoms so no need to see him! I’ll try your suggestions as much prefer natural remedy.
