Morningside T3 - dodgy batch?

I'm wondering if my latest Morningside T3 is a dodgy batch. It's expiry date: May 2019. Batch No. ABY01217. Does anyone by any chance have Morningside T3 which is giving them weird symptoms?

Hiya,

No never tried Morningside T3 mine is Mercury pharma. Have you checked the binders and fillers in the tablets? Sometimes it's these ingredients that cause problems rather than the actual active medication.

TT x.

I was on Mercury Pharma but the pharmacist suddenly replaced it with Morningside a few months ago. He's saying he can't get M.P. now.

That’s not true because I’ve just had my new script for mercury Pharma T3 filled.

I’ve just had my Mercury Pharma Liothyronine prescription and no problems getting the prescription filled. Collected from pharmacy yesterday.

Hiya,

They can get Mercury Pharma T3 but they pharmacists are switching people's prescriptions to Morningside or TEVA because it is much, much cheaper. Were you better on Mercury Pharma? If so, go back to your GP and ask him/her to specify the brand on your repeat prescription so your pharmacist cannot swap it for the cheaper stuff.

I hope this helps.

In reality it isn’t much cheaper. It’s pennies that’s all. I would explain to your pharmacist.

Hi ThyroidThora,

Have you had any problems with your T3 meds?

Just asking because my T3 has dropped recently quite a lot and I use mercury Pharma.

Hiya,

On the Mercury Pharma T3 I have a raised T3 and a negative T4 and TSH. I take 40mcg (2 x 20mcg tablets) on a morning because T3 should not be taken with caffeine containing products and I drink herbal tea when at home. I treat myself to a cappuccino when I'm out and about in town. However, I do still have hypo symptoms but my endo won't increase the dose because my T3 tends be between 7 and 8. Maybe you would be better on Mercury Pharma or TEVA brands though. I cannot take the other brands because of allergies.

TT x.

I've just been given Teva brand by pharmacist. My poor body will be so confused - I used to always have Mercury Pharma, then given Morningside now Teva. I've also taken Mexican Cynomel when I wanted to top up. Do you have any experience of Teva? I'm seriously thinking of reverting back to the Cynomel I still have.

No, I cannot take TEVA or Morningside because of allergies. PM me and I will tell you more about M.P. T3.

I think I may just need a dose increase then. I’m sticking to Mercury Pharma.

I know what I like and I like what I know!😊

The trouble is I find it difficult to argue with a pharmacist who says he's having trouble getting enough stock of T3 in. I feel I have to accept the make he gives me...... all 3 of the current makes over the last 6 months.

Hi Marigold,

I’ve been searching the internet for the name of the suppliers that your pharmacist might use but I can’t find it. I used to know it!

Have you tried a different pharmacy? It doesn’t have to be confrontational at all. You could just ask, very politely if they could source some MP T3 for you.

I’ve had to do this on a number of occasions. Literally driven round to 3 or 4 pharmacies with my prescription in hand until I’ve found one who can get it. My local pharmacy now tries his utmost to get me Mercury Pharma T3.

My brother gets his Mercury Pharma T3 medication at Boots.

It was my pharmacist who explained to me that the other brands of T3 are only just slightly cheaper than Mercury Pharma now.

It’s a terrible state of affairs.

Hi

I’ve requested Morningside since trying it when it was first released and found it ‘stronger’ than MP. I’ve never had any problems with it unlike MP which always had a short expiry date and was frequently out of date before I could finish it. I like that each Morningside tab is individually wrapped. My latest batch is dated Oct 2020 but I did have some dated May 2019 last year and didn’t notice any difference. Not sure this helps you but hope you get things sorted.

Just out of interest, can you split your dose with the Morningside brand as you can with Mercury Pharma?

Chunipet profile image

I have always split my dose. I use a pill cutter to cut the tabs - the pieces may not always be exactly the same size but over the course of a day it evens out and I haven’t had any problems doing this.

That's very interesting you say you have found Morningside stronger than MP. I've asked this question because I've been getting bad palpitations, panic attacks a while after starting to take it. I've dropped from 40mcg a day all taken in one go down to 30mcg over the last 3 days and the palpitations have subsided.

Same here! I did work back up to 40mg after a few weeks. Have felt considerably better on Morningside and wouldn’t go back to MP.

Thank you Chunipet that info has helped me to understand my situation. I taken some out of date (2016) Mexican cynomel for a few months, got paranoid about it, was getting depressed from high stress levels, then started taking 40mcg of Morningside at 4.30am. The worst palpitations & panic attacks I've ever had. How long did you leave it before going back up to 40mcg?

Just followed advice on here - increased it a little, waited two weeks and then increased and waited another two weeks etc.

I had to stop taking Morningside T3 expiry date: May 2019 because they gradually upset my whole system. I am now back on MP exp date 2020.
