After much dithering and researching and benefitting from advice from this forum (big shout out to grey goose your advice and comments have helped immensely) I finally committed to getting on track. I had bloods done last year and started T3 but to be honest was slightly nervous about self medicating and when I first started I had terrible headaches and upset stomachs so kept starting and stopping. However, after packing on another stone in weight, dieting without any success at all s few weeks ago I fainted twice in a week. I went to my GP (I’m in the UK) and insisted he test my T3 which came back at 3.1 Range was 3.5-6.5 so I was 10% below Range. My blood pressure was also on the low side, I discussed with my GP T3 who again stated that if he could prescribe he would but in the UK he cannot, I caved and said well I already have some myself but was nervous about taking it and to my surprise he agreed to monitor me, checked my medication and discussed with me how to take which gave me confidence to start. This time I have started low and not had the same side effects as before but also focussed on eating regularly as I was terrible at skipping meals It’s only been two weeks but I’ve lost 9 pounds already, my dry skin seems to have disappeared, I’m sleeping much better and feel amazing. I am also taking ferritin following my GPs advice. I use this site all the time and love to read when someone is feeling better and having some success so thought I would share my progress so far, fingers crossed it continues x

I'm so glad to hear that it's all working out and that you're feeling better. Well done for sticking to your guns.

As your GP is supportive suggest you get list of recommended thyroid specialists from Dionne at Thyroid UK
tukadmin@thyroiduk.org
Look for NHS one on the list and ask GP to refer you.
You should be prescribed NHS T3 if you have clinical need
