I’ve had my first Endo appointment today. My GP referred me 3mths ago when my TSH remained at 0.09 and I continued to have Hyper symptoms even while slowly decreasing my Levo. Since Nov, Ive simple gone from Hyper symptoms to hypo symptoms. I was so nervous about today’s appointment because my bloods are within normal range now and I thought that the endo would not be interested. I was very impressed with this initial consult. He took a full history, we looked at the fluctuation of my TSH scores and the result of the increases of Levo. We then discussed the differences between my FT3 and FT4 tests and although barely in range he can see that they aren’t in sync with each other. I told him that based on my famial history (grandmother, Mother and sister all having thyroid conditions) I wondered if I had inherited a faulty gene and told him that I have ordered a private test of the DIO2 test. He was very interested in this and said that he could see my reasoning behind this course of action because it must feel frustrating for the thyroid tests to come back in range and yet still be symptomatic. He said that as I probably know the blood test are a guide but we need to treat the person not the tests. CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE THAT STATEMENT! I have to say it again, he said ‘we need to treat the person not the tests’ 😁
This is only a first step, I may not have the faulty gene. It would be helpful if I do, it would be easier to get, he said that it’s rare but that he has treated people with a combination of t3 and t4, he wasn’t horrified by this.
He’s ordered a whole heap of bloods so we’ll wait and see what comes of that and il ring him with my DIO2 result.
