It would be ridiculous to state that thyroid illness is always caused by Lyme Disease and/or other chronic infections, but the evidence mounts continuously that there is often a link. All of the patients I've met who are being treated for Lyme and other chronic infections need thyroid replacement to support their thyroid function, and in many cases (like my daughter) they had previously been treated for many years with thyroid and other endocrine replacement only.
Lyme Disease and other chronic infections can be the cause of long term thyroid problems especially in those who are not recovering. In such cases it is worth investigating further.
It is high time that those who have any connection with diagnosing, treating and/or advising thyroid patients in the UK recognised this connection and acted accordingly. The UK is slipping further and further behind in this area and needs to wake up.
I see this is quite an old post now but I was going through the search facility and spotted it.
Interested to know if you have lyme and if so where did you get diagnosed? Nhs do not seem to recognise it. I have massive dental infections which I think are being caused by lyme. I have had 15 dental extractions and now started with auto immune thyroid. I 100% feel there is a bacterial connection whatever attacked my teeth/gums is attacking thyroid. I can't get anyone to believe me. Where can I get lyme diagnosis? Or any input you can give ?
