tongue
What sort of problems ? A swollen tongue with a pie-crust edge can be indicative of thyroid issues. Also Low B12 can be the cause of tongue problems.
it feels like my whole mouth is being overtaken by my tongue it's sore too
Do you have any test results with ranges you could share ? Thyroid and vitamins and minerals ...
been on thyroxine 50 mg 4 15 yrs

You were asked for results last time - two months ago. Difficult to help without a starting point ... 50 mcg is a starter dose - when were you last tested ? No wonder you have a swollen tongue if you have been on such a small dose for so long ... Please read your post/replies above too ...
August last yr
can doctor refuse my my fullresults if I ask
As I said above - your results are legally yours - so they cannot refuse. You do not have to see the GP - ring the Receptionist and politely mention you will be along in a few days to collect them. Job done ! You need the results from August last year - and then start a NEW post so more people see the results with ranges ...
You shouldn't need to give notice for just a copy of the latest results. Earlier this week, as always, I simply walked into the surgery and asked for a copy of my echocardiogram results, oh and can I have a copy of the last letter to the CCG too please; and they were both printed off without comment.
Just hoping OP obtains results as easily ! We seem to read many posts where its an obstacle course 😊 Living in Crete we keep all our own records !
I have oral lichen planus which affects my tongue only. This can be extremely painful, making it difficult to eat. I think it is another autoimmune disease.
I have had this for over 10 years though I have been very fortunate in that I have only had two flare ups in all that time and it doesn’t normally cause me any pain. In fact since I’ve been on levothyroxine it seems to have improved considerably.
A small amount of Manuka honey held in the mouth for a time provided me with some relief. Also salt water gargles and garlic pearls were helpful in my case.
Hope you find the answer to your problem soon.
Best wishes
Caroline
As others have said, 50mcg Levothyroxine is only the standard starter dose.
You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet
Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Once you get copies of previous results come back with new post, members can advise next step
Likely futher blood tests will be needed due test vitamins and antibodies
Recommended that thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Do not take Levothyroxine dose in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take immediately after blood draw. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.
Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .

NICE guidelines saying how to initiate and increase Levothyroxine
Note that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine
