Biting tongue

Hi! Does anyone suffer with a swollen tongue and find it difficult to eat and/or bites their tongue? I do and it's a real problem. Could it be I need to have my Levo raised?

it's a very common problem and there is a possibility that you may be under medicated

Thanks nobodysdriving! I think your definitely right. GP did attempt to raise levo a couple of months ago but I became hyper and it was lowered again. Could it be I need an alternative form of medication?

Yes I used to have this. Dr Skinner told me it was a hypo symptom that only people who've been hypo for a longer time have, as it takes time to build up.

My tongue got much less swollen once my meds went up and also had T3 added.

If you haven't done already I'd suggest getting your latest blood test results and posting them here with their reference ranges (each laboratory has slightly different reference ranges). Then people can offer more advice. I wouldn't be surprised if you needed an increase.

Hugs,

Totoro

Swollen tongue can be a hypo symptom, can also be sign of B12 deficiency deep scarlet, fissured) which hypo people are prone to have. Please get B12 levels checked, should be at least 600. Folate and ferritin, full blood count usually checked at same time

Hi nostoneunturned. I had my B12 checked a couple of months back and it was 913, way over the top range which, without checking, was around 660. GP ordered another to be done a month later but lab refused to do it and that was the end of it. Ferritin was under but GP said nothing needed to be done. Same with vit D. I ended up supplementing myself.

Your B12 level was good so hypo probably caused swollen tongue. Totoro gives you good advice.

I have same problem and it can wake me at night especially if under any stress! Have found that mouthwash dentaforce by A.Vogel from the healthfood shop and adcortyl paste from pharmacist can help with condition when acute. The mouthwash has lots of plants and no flouride;-)

I know that people with pernicious anemia suffer this. What is your B12 level? It should be in the upper ranges.

Hi Holoise. Last B12 test result was 913 (upper range 660).

That looks good unless you took supplements within days of the test.

Hi Heloise. I was taking a multi vitamin/min but it had no b12 in it.

Hmmm, I wonder if you could still be anemic even though B12 is high. It might not hurt to take a low dose iron pill.

I've been taking spatone for a few weeks now and levels are rising slowly ( started at 44 and risen to 51 at last count about 3/4 weeks ago so at same rate should be nearer to 60 by now).

Maybe this will be your answer.....I think 80 is the target level. I do hope you have success with that.
