Sorry if this isn’t relevant but once again a high white cell count, and docs say no problem. Really!!! 4 days before Xmas I was diagnosed with lung cancer.......so the high white cells don’t count...... or do they ? And should this have been investigated more vigorously.

Yes that is possible, but they have been raised since January 2018. I was put under oncology/haematology in july for advanced blood tests and they found my base iron was extremely low . Don't know why this has suddenly kicked off. Well my guess is the aircon on a flight to china early November started the ball rolling. I was fine, able to breath, walk and no cough until I landed in Shanghai then the rot set in, I was ill all my holiday. Anyway my GP and hospital have been on the ball and I start my treatment Jan 8th .Thanks for your response and concern

Hello, I am really sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but don’t despair, there are some really good therapies out there at present, please don’t give up hope!

The increased white blood cell count could be realted to the cancer, the immune system recognizes that something is going on in your body, just like it would detect viruses and bacteria, it can also detect cancer cells and hence the elevated white blood cell count in an effort to counteract the invasion. This would also tie in with the elevated count before the diagnosis was made.

I would not say though its not a problem, but more a reaction to whats going on. Still it should be looked at, just to be sure. I hope all will get sorted out soon, all the best wishes!

I'm sorry about your diagnosis, you must be upset and angry it wasn't picked up sooner.

I don't know much about white blood cells - only that mine are under range for some reason and that hasn't been investigated. In all honesty I think most GPS are useless, I think you're lucky to get a good one. I just wanted to wish you well and better health for 2019 x

Thanks Brad07, yes I am considering that oncology were sorting my bloods out in the summer and NO cancer was showing.
