What are the most effective home remedies you can think of for a runny nose and flu.
Asking for myself.

Vit C. High doses of vit C throughout the day. As high as your stomach can tolerate. Best to start before you get a cold or flu - prevention is better than cure!
Thanks. I will buy some fruits rich in Vitamin C. Appreciate your response! 🙂
Sorry, but that's not going to do it. You would never be able to eat enough fruit to give you the necessary amount of vit C. I'm talking about something like 5000 mg a day. You would need vit C supplements of some kind.
Not a big fan of supplements! 😕
I try to take the necessary vitamins and minerals from natural sources like vegetables, meat, salad and fruits.
But I see your point, that requirement of Vitamin C is quite huge per day.
That's all very laudable, but if you're hypo, not necessarily faisable. Hypos tend to have low stomach acid, and therefore have difficulty digesting and absorbing nutrients. That's why we recommend taking supplements. We'd all love to be able to give up the pills, but if the result is malnutrition, I think the pills are preferable.
I agree with greygoose about prevention is better than cure.
I haven't had a cold for well over 20 years. Also, because of my lung disease I need to avoid infection. This is what I do
1) Take 1 x homeopathic Oscillococcinum pillule on the first day of the month from October through to March. I have mine made up at a homeopathic chemist.
2) Take 1 teaspoonful garlic liquid every day of the year.
3) Daily Vit C throughout the year, I'm guessing mine is about 4000mg daily in divided doses (I use powder so just dip the spoon in).
4) Avoid people with any cold or chest infection.
5) Wash hands, wash hands, wash hands. Germs are everywhere, on every door you push open or door handle you use, every supermarket trolley you push or basket you carry.
6) Don't use the computer screen to book in at the doctors unless wearing gloves - sick people go there and use that screen, best place to pick up germs!
The best home remedy - good old honey & lemon in hot water (raw honey is best)
This is also really good at soothing & clearing up a sore throat, I don't use any pharmaceuticals, only natural & home made! Sea salt on the tip of your tongue followed by a glass of water is really good for restless leg syndrome & sleep issues (as it's a sign of deficiency)
Hi Tia,
Can you recommend me a good raw honey jar?
I mean the name of company selling the product.
Would greatly appreciate!
Yes sure, I order mine online from two places (buy kg jars as works out cheaper) I'll pm you the details as don't think HU like companies being advertised
Keeping your vitamin D levels optimal might help prevent catching future germs
Most of us with thyroid disease need to supplement vitamin D
For any illness which causes even the mildest fever make sure you drink sufficient water. Your body dehydrates when feverish, and it needs replacement fluids to work well.
Personal anecdote : When I am ill I always drink a glass of water fairly regularly throughout the day. Under the same circumstances my husband often refuses to drink anything more than the occasional sip of water. He's not hypothyroid and so his temperature is always higher than mine even when we are both as well as possible. But when we are both ill at the same time with the same viral illness the difference in our temperatures increases even further than normal and I can guarantee that his temperature will rise to, say, 104F, whereas mine won't go higher than 102F, and he'll stay ill for at least twice as long as me.
Elderberry syrup or elderberry extract, if you want to avoid the sugar. It's high in Vit C & many other nutrients. Also, camu camu.
