There Is Light At The End Of The Tunnel

Hi all,

I went to see a different GP today for a second opinion with the private blood test results from last week in the hope that he would understand the Hashi hypo/hyper swings that I am experiencing and how dreadful I feel.

I have been started on 50 mcg Levothyroxine and for repeat TFT’s in 6 weeks.

He has upped my citalopram dose in the hope that it can control my anxiety better.

He wants to expedite my Endocrinologist appointment and be seen much sooner than March.

He has said he wants to treat the person and their symptoms rather than just looking at the numbers... how good to hear!

All in all I came out feeling so relieved.

Just wanted to update people especially those who said my results were more indicative of Hashimoto’s rather than Hyperthyroidism..... Thank you.

Hi

It’s great news about being started on Levothyroxine, just keep in mind that your anxiety may be a result of your thyroid issue.

If you can try and go easy on the antidepressants as you may not need them.

Hopefully once you get on the correct dosage of Levothyroxine you will start to feel a lot better.

Good luck & Best Wishes

Thanks for the best wishes Peanut.

I’m on 20mgs citalopram and he has upped it to 30 so try and see if it helps my anxiety whilst the thyroxine kicks in. Hopefully if I can become optimised on the Levo I will be able to reduce or even stop the anti-depressants 😊

Your doctor - I think either has hypo himself or has a member of his family who does. I think your anxiety will resolve as dose is increased and am sure you can tick more than a couple of 'symptoms'. Levothyroxine is an inactive hormone. It has to convert to T3 (liothryonine) the Active thyroid hormone. We have millions of T3 receptor cells and brain and heart contain the most.

Hi Shaws, yes. I can certainly tick some of those symptoms on that list.

The GP today was very empathetic and listened to me completely. You’re maybe right about him having personal experience of hypothyroidism

Reallyfedup, why?

I have had depression on and off for a long time. Admittedly not always on anti-depressants but whilst my current high anxiety state is more than likely due to my thyroid problems I need something quick to help me function whilst the Levo kicks in 😊
