I've seen it!

For about 2 weeks I felt normal for the first time in years. Somewhere along the line with me messing around with my self medication I think I must have hit my sweet spot. All I need to do now is find out how to get back there but at least I know now it exists :-)

Very good news, Bobs. Can you tell us more? Is it a combination of supplements with thyroid hormone or yoga and diet, etc.?

I just checked some of your history. When you said they told you that your results weren't too far off, did they say whether too high or too low. Is it possible to see them yourself? I'm also thinking you have been on your 2 1/2 grain of NDT for about three months? If that is correct, it may account for that sweet spot you hit a couple of weeks ago. You are at the correct level and feeling the improvement. That would be a great sign that you have found the right dose for you. You should probably stay there for a while before making any changes.

PS sorry forgot to say tried yoga but I was so weak I couldn't do it, but will try again now! and diet is now same as I've done all my life - eat everything and eat when I'm hungry. Oh but now I have a few medjool dates a day and I do think they help with my old friend constipation :-)

Hi Heloise, I didn't have my first lot of bloods printed off but TSH was slightly above range and T4 low. After 6 weeks on 25mcg of levo, TSH was in range 2.4 (0.27 to 4.2) and T4 low in range 12.6 (12 to 22). They raised me to 50mcg as hypo symptoms were worse than before I went on to it, but to no avail - I felt even worse on 50mcg. At this point I decided I needed to try NDT.

No. I'm afraid I've been upping and downing like a yoyo!

Briefly:

3.5 months on levothyroxine during which time I gained a stone in weight and had far worse fatigue and felt dreadful.

Switched to NDT, gradually increasing to 3 grains over the next few months. No hyper symptoms apart from high pulse rate on 3 (over 100 each day). This scared me quite a bit so I dropped to 2 grains and then down to 1 over the next couple of weeks.

Once on 1 grain I added in 10mg pregnenolone.

At this point I had my couple of 'feeling normal' weeks.

Then fatigue began again - mid afternoon crashes - so added in 6.25mcg T3 and increased this to 12.5mcg after a couple of weeks.

I feel I'm almost there now, just need a half hour lie down around 2.0pm (but no sleep)

Pulse normal, 70-80, blood pressure normal, temperature normal 36.4, and weight back down to pre-levo level.

So now I take

10mg prenenolone

1 grain NDT

12.5 mcg T3

I decided to add T3 (rather than trying to raise NDT again) as it's quicker to get rid of if my pulse should start climbing too high again

You certainly put your facts together and it points out how well your body tries to let you know what is going on. This is such a good testimonial, I hope others will take note. Good for you!

I don't really know - some say to take a break, some say it's OK to carry on as it's naturally produced in the body anyway.
