weight gain or loss on NDT verses synthetic Levothyroxin

Another question I have is concerning weight loss. Studies suggest more weight loss on NDT verses synthetic Levo. I did seem to gain weight when on Tirosint but I was hungry all the time !! The pharmacist told me there is no different at all..

Your pharmacist needs to go back to school! The difference is that NDT contains both T4 and T3, whereas levo is just T4. And, it's often the T3 that makes the difference. BUT I put on a ton of weight taking NDT. It didn't suit me at all. I managed to lose a lot of weight on synthetic T3, but not levo. We're all different and need to experiment to find what suits us best.

It all depends on dose and distribution across the day and night. In my experience you have to get it all just right! If you have a huge appetite it’s not right. But don’t expect the weight to disappear by magic ... it won’t.

Your pharmacist doesn’t have a thyroid problem ....

You may have a pharmacist problem ...

I have lost no weight on T4 meds with T3 and NDT...makes me sad.
