There are conflicting sources as to the conversions from levothyroxine to thyro-gold. Paul Jones blog claims that 150mg thyro-gold= 100mcg levothyroxine, however due to extra powder it is actually 111mg thyro-gold=100mcg levothyroxine.
On the other hand, several posts on these forums say 150mg thyro-gold=87.5mcg levothyroxine.
Does anyone know what the true dose equivalence is?
Am wanting to convert to thyro-gold from 100mcg levothyroxine.
Thanks!

Well, no one knows for sure - that’s how it can be sold as a supplement rather than a drug. But I always understood that a 300mg capsule contains 100mcg of T4 and 25mcg of T3.
So 150mg would contain 50mcg T4 and 12mcg of T3.
Therefore 150mg would have the equivalent effect in potency as 100mcg levothyroxine - 50 plus 12.5x4. The jury’s out whether liothyronine is 3 or 4 times more potent than Levo though, so it could be 50 plus 12.5x3 = 87.5mcg Levo.
That’s why you’re seeing both numbers.
And the extra powder will simply be fillers - holding the bovine thyroid powder together.
The answer is dependant of whether you use a 3:1 or a 4:1 ratio as that is the difference between 87.5 or 100 mcgs Levo.
With regards to the "extra powder", I think that refers to the biological effect .... a bit like the 65mg WP Thyroid (1 grain comprising of 38mcg T4 + 9mcg T3) is actually equivalent to 100 mcg Levo.
If you haven't medicated T3 before, it would be prudent to ease on the side of caution.
Yes, I just read the blog cos I didn’t understand that bit - Paul refers to power not powder. I’m assuming that’s the T1,T2 and T5 components. But no one knows how much of those hormones are in any NDT tablet (if any) so there’s little point in factoring it in.
So I agree with you in theory that one grain should be equivalent to 100mcg. But I find personally it’s not as strong as 100mcg. I could simply be a poor T4 to T3 converter or my guts aren’t as good at absorbing as other people’s guts.
It’s all guesswork really, this thyroid lark, isn’t it? I was reading a book the other day that said FT3 and FT4 levels have nothing to do with how you feel. Now I personally don’t buy into that (!) but it did get me thinking.
I’ll keep swallowing my not-so-good-as-it-used-to-be Nature Throid and bank on the placebo effect working if nothing else...
i was told that 300 a day was equivalent to 100mg of synthroid ..i never tried it ....bec it is weaker than most ndt meds ....i was told but it does workfor many....
I was also on 100mcg of levothyroxine and contacted Tammy, the wife of the late Dr Lowe who advised me to work my way up to 2 x 150 of Thyrogold. I took 50mcg of levothyroxine for 2 weeks with 150 Thyrogold, then I dropped the levothyroxine and increased to 300 of Thyrogold.
Sadly it didn't work for me and I switched to Thai Thiroyd. Still having teething problems but also seeing some great benefits.
Thyrogold has good reviews but I still felt hypo. It's quite expensive too.
