Thyro-Gold comparable dose to Levothyroxine

I am considering trying Thyro-Gold. I am currently on 75mcg of Levothyroxine. Can anyone advise what the equivalent dose of TG would be bearing in mind that it comes in 150mg and 300mg capsules.

I think 150mg ThyroGold is equivalent to 87.5mcg Levothyroxine but you can email Tammy Lowe at Natural Thyroid Solutions to check.

DON'T do a direct swap. Start the NDT slowly about 1/4 grain then build up over a few weeks unlesss you are already taking some form of T3. I'm sure doctors tell you to directly swap it so they can say they've ruled it out!

Many thanks Glynisrose. I'm not on any form of T3 so will start gradually. Please can you explain what a grain is. I see this on so many posts. Is it a U.S. measurement? I've ordered 150mg capsules.

1 grain is the equivalent of about 60 micrograms of 1/4 grain would be approximately 15 microgrammes.

I would always defer to clutter, but my research - and I could be wrong - would seem to indicate that 150mg of Thyro-Gold is equal to 100mcg Levo or, 1 1/4 grains. Juggling doses is difficult, but opening the capsules and dividing the powder is the best solution that I can come up with. However, as I said, Clutter is far more experienced than I, so I suggest you do a little of your own research before commiting to a particular dose. I would recommend you look at this website:

He gives the ration of T3 to T4 as 4 to 1. Depending on research ie: T3 equalling 3-1 or 4-1 of T4 would explain the disparity between 87.5 or 100mgs of Levo. Best. Stevie.
