Well yes, this seems to be the message from many quarters. So much for fat being bad for us and GP's giving out statins like smarties for years. Probably at the beck and call of pharma companies hell bent on making a buck or a million. Since going gluten free, I eat no carbs at all and feel great without. I still believe many who are looking for a quick fix weight loss recipe are barking up the wrong tree. Back to basic unadulterated, unprocessed fruit, veg, meat and fish. Dump the junk food, temp faddy diets and get the body moving. Ditch the car where possible and cycle, swim, walk, whatever! Just get that body moving. On the back of this article that you post, there is a growing body of belief that many folk are insulin resistant and some of the explanations for this condition make interesting reading.

I really, really, really want to eat a low-carb diet, with more fat and moderate protein. I've been trying, intermittently, for at least two years, and probably closer to three. And I'm fatter than ever. My downfall? I'm a carb addict who binges on ice cream and sweets. :(

I wish that I knew how to overcome the addiction. I succeed for a few days and then everything falls apart for a few days, then the cycle repeats, over and over again. It's almost as if I leave my brain at home and just buy what I crave without thinking about it much at all. And if I've bought it then someone (i.e. me) has to eat it - I was brought up not to waste anything.

Whinge, whinge, whinge. :( I bore myself!

One suggestion Humanbean...I know this isn't a new one, but sometimes we forget. NEVER shop for food when you are hungry. Always make sure you have eaten and feel full. For me, it's actually hard to shop for food when I'm full...nothing looks very exciting, but I make myself shop at that time. Make your grocery list and follow it. If you only have plenty of meat, chicken, fish, cheese and good salad fixings in the house, you can't binge on carbs...you don't have them. I don't mean to sound trivial about all this...I really do know how hard it is...but I also know how great it feels to be free of the carb addiction.

Hi to all who are trying to go on the Keto way of eating. I do not like to call it a diet because it needs to be a lifetime way of eating. You cannot eat higher fat, moderate protein, low carb 5 days a week and then carb up on the weekend....you WILL gain weight and end up feeling awful on Monday. I am 70 years old and I have followed this way of eating for almost 35yrs. Yes, there have been times of stress that I have gone off, but after feeling terrible for a few weeks, I get back to eating Keto again. I have many blood relatives who suffered from diabetes so I knew I needed to find a lifetime way of eating that may help me from becoming a diabetic.. 34 years ago when my last baby was a year old and I still hadn't lost the baby weight I found a Dr. who believed a low carb, higher fat/protein way of eating was the answer for her patients...she was way ahead of her time! Yes it is hard to get started. It takes about 2 weeks to get into true ketosis and to start feeling good. A lot of people can't get past the first 5 days and then say it doesn't work. It's as much a mindset as body set. You have to get your mind to the point if you put a cookie or piece of bread in your month that the alarm goes off and you take it out and throw it in the trash! Their are many books and online sites that give you great hints and recipes to get you to ketosis.

Just yesterday there was a report on the Today show about a recent multi million dollar study at Harvard U that shows that low carb eating does work for long term weight loss and helps with other ailments.
