Blood Test Results - can anyone help please?

Hello.

I'm currently being investigated for Coeliac Disease and, as part of those investigations, have been diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia, low vitamin D and an IgA deficiency.

My health has been slowly getting worse over a six-year period, but the last two have been like hell. My symptoms include:

- exhaustion (tired doing small things like washing my hair, reaching top kitchen shelf, etc) to the point of being bedbound;

- feeling smothered in my heart and brain as though they are not getting enough oxygen;

- breathlessness;

- tingling in my hands and feet;

- hair falling out in handfuls;

- forgetfulness;

- irritability

I'm 36, but feel 106. My GP is trying to prescribe anti-depressants - even though I do not feel depressed or demotivated. My strongest emotion is frustration because I just want to get to the bottom of things and feel better. She is also pushing for a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I had some blood tests taken this week and my TSH is 2.31. This is the only thyroid reading that I have. What does it mean? Could it explain any of my symptoms?

I'm not getting much help from my GP - other than wanting to send me away with anti-depressants - and it would be helpful to know whether I need to consider (rule in/rule out) any potential thyroid issues.

Thank you for reading this far.

Welcome to the group. I can see why you don’t want to take antidepressants at this stage. I always say there is nothing more depressing than a doctor not listening to you. That doesn’t mean yu are necessarily depressed.

If your doc thinks you might be Coeliac you need to get that sorted out. You know that your vit D is low and that you are anaemic so it’s not surprising you feel exhausted. Do you know what your B12 is like?

If you have the results of your blood tests post them along with their lab ranges (numbers in brackets after the results) if you haven’t got them then ask at your surgery because you are entitled to have them.

I’m sure others will come along with a lot more helpful information for you.

Poor you. Loads of helpful posts on this site re what to test for and also info on how important optimal nutrients are.

Am 39 and similar story (though I was diagnosed hypo at 21, I was fine on medication until two years ago when went vitamin D deficient and it all went pear shaped again eg took me 7 hours to get out of bed even tho thyroid levels looked normal)

doctors told me CFS etc but you would be surprised at what an impact vitamin d deficiency has so try get that sorted. Similarly anaemia.

Don’t stop gluten until you test for coeliac but after, even if not coeliac try giving it up. Helped my energy massively. Also focus on blood sugar control.
