Can anyone help interpret my test results please?

I’ve had a Thyroid Plus Vit test with Medichecks and would appreciate some expert help with interpreting the results - see image attached.

Please note that I’m currently not supplementing anything except Vit D and Omega oils. Am going to see my GP about the same ongoing and debilitating fatigue and migraines. Also chronic urticaria and dry eyes/skin/hair falling out that I’ve experienced before when I was found to be iron deficiency anaemic last year due to heavy periods.

Anything you could comment upon or advise on that I could raise with my GP would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Hi reallyfedup123,

Thanks for replying. Yes (*sigh*) am well aware of the inadequacy of the NHS approach & the crazy TSH numbers used to determine what feeling well is and when treatment should begin. TSH levels don’t even tell you what’s being used on a cellular level does it. The T4 level being at the bottom. What would that indicate? What should I say to my GP when I take her these results?

Thyroglobulin antibodies are within range

Thanks SlowDragon. Any other observations?

The FT3 result is 4.46 (3.1 - 6.6)

So what does that mean in relation to FT4 of 13 - any ideas?

How much Levothyroxine or T3 are you currently taking?

Ferritin is still far too low

What supplements are you taking?

Eating liver or liver pate once a week, plus other iron rich foods like black pudding, prawns, spinach, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily vitamin C can help improve iron absorption

FERRITIN and hypothyroidism

Many thanks for the advice & links. I’m not actually on any thyroid meds or supplements.

I don’t take anything other than Vit D & omegas.

I was taking a high dose ferrous sulphate last year to replace ferritin but was told by GP last Oct that I could reduce down to stop as my ferritin was adequately replaced. Didn’t think it was. This has confirmed it.

I'm a bit confused. Looking back at your previous posts, your first post on the forum showed below range TSH and below range FT4, ? secondary hypothyroidism. What happened about that because those are classic results for secondary hypothyroidism.

Then you had another test which showed in range TSH (fairly high in range) and what looks like below range FT4. Again, results which suggest secondary hypothyroidism.

Then you did a urine test which showed both T3 and T4 and Dr Peatfield started you on T3.

When and why did you stop taking T3?

You appear to have had a problem with ferritin for years, what's been done about it? If you've supplemented and managed to raise your level, have you retested and done something about maintaining a better level?

Your B12 is right at the top of the range which is unusual for someone who isn't supplementing.

Not as confused as I am 😳 don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing. Told to stop taking T3 by NHS Endo year’s who and just became so confused that I decided to stop. I haven’t had any medication or supplements besides ferrous sulphate for the low ferritin. I don’t take anything with B12 in so I have no idea why that’s so high. It’s a bit worrying as no one seems to know why it could be so high without supplementation.

Just on the low ferritin levels. I have had heavy periods for years and became very anaemic. I got tested and it was 17. I started to replace it with high doses of ferrous sulphate and it was up to around 40 last October. I was told by a GP at the group practice Im registered with that 40 was fine and I didn’t really need to continue supplementing with high doses of iron. So I reduced and then eventually stopped. I’ve just had it retested and it’s showing as around half that. So I’m going back to the GP for the iron sulphate prescription and maybe ask wha they know about secondary hypothyroidism.

Ferritin needs to be higher than 40

At least halfway in range for good thyroid function. See my links in first reply

Iron and ferritin need regular testing when supplementing

High B12 may suggest functional B12 deficiency.

Or

Have you taken B vitamins in recent past?

It takes months for B12 levels to drop
