Serum Gamma GT - test results above "normal"

My last LFT (Serum Gamma GT level) tests have all been “abnormal”, the last test was in Oct 2016 - it was 192 u/L (normal being 0-39), and before then the last nine tests were also “abnormal”, and I haven't been re-tested for this since the one in October 2016.

What does this type of abnormal result mean, what could be underlying issues? Also I don't drink alcohol (only very occasionally). I do remember vaguely the doctor asking me how much alcohol I drank when these tests were coming back abnormal, and he didn't seem to believe me. I had forgotten that i hadn't been retested, and it was only when I looked online at my medical records that I saw it.

My other LF tests done more recently (11 October) were "normal" Serum Alt was 35 u/L (normal 0-49) and Serum Total Billirubin was 9 umol/L (normal range 0-20) .

I have now written to the surgery to ask to get retested for the Gamma GT, would like to know some more though of what these type of abnormalities in this test means.

High levels of gamma GT can also be caused by a high carb and/or high sugar diet, heart failure, diabetes, pancreatitis, hepatitis, and a few other conditions.

Being hypothyroid can affect any organ or tissue of the body, so the liver won't be exempt.

I have liver function problems and have been tested every six months for 13 years. I’m always over range... GGT has been as high as yours but usually around 75. The consultant I saw told me it was most probably an autoimmune issue (I have asthma and hashis) and to retest regularly. If result was consistently over 90 he wanted me to go back to see him. It may be wise to ask for a referral if your repeat test is high. X
