Weird symptom of the day....anyone had clothes smelling of smoke? What could it be?

I have recently noticed (last 5-6 weeks I am guesstimating) that my night clothes smell of smoke when I go to wear them the next day. I don’t smoke and am not in smoky environments. Oddly one the items smelled of of a mixture of smoke and Chinese (sweet and sour to be exact) last night! My husband could smell it so it’s not my imagination or something to do with my sense of smell. His suggestion was that I am sleep-walking out to clubs and bars and making post-clubbing Chinese visits, which would also explain my excessive fatigue lol!

Very weird, anyone had anything like this or have any idea what it could be?

It sounds like phantosmia, which is surprisingly common and generally benign; but your husband having it too is odd - maybe just a coincidence. A search here will bring up lots of posts - it tends to be mostly cigarette smoke or burning rubber smells, with variations on the theme.

I don't think it is phantosmia as I have got my husband to smell the clothes and he could smell exactly the same smell. It is also only on my nightclothes - so perhaps something to do with my sweat. Very odd!

Garlic and some other foods alter the smell of sweat so if you like garlic, it may be worth eating some (roasted slowly for less punch) to see if your sweat changes.

I don’t eat any garlic as I have been low fodmapping and it’s one of the few foods I’ve yet to reintroduce. What other foods affect sweat do you know?
