Hi , this is my first post although I have been massively helped by reading other posts . Was diagnosed hypo 3 years ago after fainting a couple of times and had many other symotoms for years which I put down to the menopause . I was 57 at the time . I was told that I was border line hypo at age 46 . This meant nothing to me and the gp never mentioned this again . Anyway after looking at some of my results this site showed me that vits b12 and vitd are extremely low ( just in range ). I now supplement but still always tired and sometimes very weak . I have a very busy lifestyle, work , grandchildren , the usual . I requested a blood test and also asked To would it be possible to test T3 as well. The reply was , " it's down to the lab , if the T4 isn't right then they do the T3 " . I am awaiting results which I now intend to put on here ( with a little help ) my technology skills are quite basic . May I add that this site has kept me sane and given me an understanding and knowledge which I couldn't have gained anywhere else , so a big thankyou to all involved .

Hello Julesd,

Being a thyroid warrior can be a little hard with our current nhs system but we’re getting there! Please be aware our docs have little knowledge on the subject so you should may be ask for second opinions. Don’t worry about your tech skills! Every site is different and it’s all a learning curve. I think I speak for the majority of us when I say, we look forward to helping you along your journey to better health. Have a lovely day.
You’re in good hands. EbonyEvans
I'd recommend getting tested for iron/ferritin as fatigue and exhaustion are some of the symptoms. Additionally some may recommend testing your adrenals with a 24 hour cortisol test, if your adrenals are not doing well it can also cause fatigue and exhaustion. If you are not converting T4 into T3 you definitely need T3 otherwise you will continue to suffer with hypo symptoms. I'm no expert but I hope this helps somewhat! There's hundreds of people eager to share their knowledge with you, I hope you feel better soon we have all been there!
Hi,
Just thinking of your b12, it's very common to have pernicious anaemia on top of under active thyroid. If you have absorption problems, you won't get little benefit from b12 tablets. It's a nuisance that once you start supplementing, that it raises your blood level but doesn't reflect how much is reaching the cells.
So many have to self inject because of that reason.
Oh, and just a mention about vitamin D3, are you taking a softgel version with k2 and magnesium? The cofactors are needed to ensure that the calcium absorbed reaches your bones and teeth,
Also, do you know your folate and ferritin/blood stores level? You're legally entitled to a print out of your blood results and then could post on here.
Thank you for the replies. I am awaiting blood results and will then post . July 2017 my results showed folate 4.60. (Range greater than 4 ).
Serum ferriten 32 ug/l ( Range 10.0 - 291.0).
Serum TSH 1.6 ( 0.35 - 5.5)
Vitd 68.4 (50.0 -125.0 )
B12 333 ng/l ( 211.0 - 911.0 )
Not sure if any help because a year ago .
Since then have just been taking Vitd3. B12 and Magnesium.
I realise I need to sort supplements but once I post my recent results i can get the help to tell me exactly what I need .
Also my cholesterol has gone from 6.9 to 7.4 and although my good cholesterol is very good my go keeps asking me to think about a statin which I am trying to avoid . Thankyou so much I should've done this sooner .
So your folate and ferritin were very low. It's difficult now to know your true b12 level due to the supplements. Just to mention to, if your folate and ferritin are low, that affects the absorption of the b12. The b12 deficiency support group charity has a really good symptoms checker that will give you a percentage at the end as to how likely it is you have a b12 deficiency.
High cholesterol has been linked to both low b12 and under active thyroid.
Thank you I feel relieved already . I was aware hypothyroid sometimes goes hand on hand with low cholesterol but didn't know about the b12 absorption. I will post my recent results when I pick them up on Monday and then hopefully there's light at the end of the tunnel . I will look at the b12 symptom checker now if I can stop yawning .
I can't thank you enough and other members for replying .
