Sudden weight gain!!

Horrified this morning ! Weighed myself and found I've gained 5 kilos in less than a month!

I'm hypo and Hashimotos on Euthyrox 88 mcg for just over a year now. My last TSH was 2.73(range 0.4-5.0) FT3 4.18(range 2.4-6.4) and FT4 was 20.12 (range 10-24)

Anti TG was 1219.5 which was half of before I was medicated.

I haven't changed my diet or routines at all so why has this happened? Should I rush to the endo or start a strict diet!!! Help!!!

Definitely do not start a strict diet! That would make things worse. You are under-medicated and have a conversion problem, that's why you're putting on weight. Do rush to the endo, and ask for an increase in dose. 88 mcg is a stupid little starter dose! :)

Thanks for your quick reply!

I was thinking this may be the case although initially I did loose a few kilos - which gradually went on over the months..... I really must not put on weight because I have problems with my knees and also a bladder hernia - hence my panic as extra weight is the worse thing for these problems...

So I'll see the endo and see what he suggests and get some updated bloods maybe....

Yes, it's not surprising that you lost a bit of weight when you first started levo. But, you should have had a blood test six weeks later and your dose increased by 25 mcg. And continued like that until your symptoms had all gone.

However, it's not sure that just increasing the levo is going to do the trick because, as I said, you have a conversion problem, and would probably do better with some T3 added to your levo.

As you are in Crete you can buy your T4 meds over the counter. As suggested in an earlier thread of yours - it was suggested your dose is too low. I would increase and this should improve your T3 result if your B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD are optimal .. I think Endos here in Crete are not quite up to speed - yet ! At least they are open to discussion. Do you see Boukas ?

I too am carrying too much weight with optimal T3 results ! It must be the Cretan lifestyle. 😎

Hi Marz!!

Didn't know we can buy over the counter here( probably cos I've never asked!

B12 - folate -ferritin and vit D are in upper ranges , but I supplement with B12 and D3 /K2.

What/who is Boukas??
