High TSH normal thyroid levels

Has anybody had a raised TSH level but normal thyroid levels? What does it mean? My doctor didnt really explain it and ive now convinced myself that something is really wrong!

We'd have to see the actual numbers to be able to say. Can you post the results and the ranges and let us have a look?

The doctor never told me my results. Just said I would need it re testing in january, which seems like a long time away!

No, he wouldn't give them to you, he'd probably rather you didn't know. You should ask at reception, because in the UK, it is your legal right to have a print-out of your results - they are yours. And, you need to know exactly what was tested, and exactly what the results were, and keep your own records.

You can always ask at reception for a printed copy of your results (including the range in brackets....important because they can vary between laboratories), you are legally entitled to them.

It's possible that since your levels are considered "normal" and you have elevated TSH that this may be a tempory blip if your body has recently undergone maybe an injury, inflammation, illness or some other upset that it has temporarily risen and GP will wait for things to settle down again, hence waiting till January to test again.

However as you might gather on this forum we don't like the word "normal" being bandied about by doctors, it just means you are within the range figures. The crux is whereabouts in the range or are your results just outside the range. "Normal" doesn't mean anything really!
