Pituitary testing

Hi

I’ve had some hormone testing for cortisol , prolactin , TSH T3 & T4 .

I’ve had a couple more hormones tested via blood sample . Now I have to get my pituitary tested .

All I know is I’ll have a canula in and get injected with something . A blood test will be taken at regular intervals .

Has anyone had this done ?

I’m a little worried🙁

This will likely be an injection of a hormone called Thyrotropin (TSH)-Release Hormone (TRH). This is made in the hypothalamus gland and this hormone stimulates the pituitary to release TSH. If your pituitary is faulty, then not much TSH will be released by the injection. In earlier days the TRH test was quite often done to confirm hypo and hyperthyroidism as well as hypopituitarism but now it is limited to testing pituitary activity.

Thank you for your reply .

I’m self treating with 9 ,T3 per day .

My symptoms are still there , so I’ve had other hormone tests now I am ready for an appointment coming through for this test .

My TSH is always low this is why the endo decided on this test .
