This will likely be an injection of a hormone called Thyrotropin (TSH)-Release Hormone (TRH). This is made in the hypothalamus gland and this hormone stimulates the pituitary to release TSH. If your pituitary is faulty, then not much TSH will be released by the injection. In earlier days the TRH test was quite often done to confirm hypo and hyperthyroidism as well as hypopituitarism but now it is limited to testing pituitary activity.
