Type of tablet

I’m having problems with disintegrating Levo tabs. I have actavis 100 mcg that crumble easily and I have trouble taking pills at the best of times. They always stick in my throat no matter how much water I drink and I can taste them for ages afterwards. I find Wockhardt 25 much solider and easier to swallow but they don’t do 100s. Any suggestions for a change in manufacturer

I'd speak to the pharmacist who supplies your tablets.

I believe thyroid hormones are made so that they are dissolved in the stomach. So you may have a faulty batch.

Getting them whole into my stomach was what concerned me. helvella says they can be dissolved and drunk so I suppose I could be wrong over that

I've been taking Activis for probably 15 years or so, never had any crumble and I have 100mcg and 50mcg strength. I even cut my 50s with a pill cutter. Maybe you have a faulty batch.

I use Actavis 100mcg and have just tried crumbling and they are definitely hard straight out of the blister pack. I agree with Shaws, sounds like a faulty batch and should be taken back to the pharmacy you got them from so they can submit the batch number as a query to the manufacturers.

Right will check the batch with pharmacy . My favs are definitely Wockhardt only wish they did 100s

You can disperse the tablet in a glass of water and drink the result. (Probably best to refill with some more water and drink that as well to avoid any remaining in the glass.) There is no need to swallow the tablet whole or in pieces.

I used to find that around one tablet in every blister pack would break as I pushed it out. Actavis did make an adjustment and recently (quite a few months now) have not had an issue.

Check the date on the pack - if the use by date is less than a year away, I'd guess it was made before the change.

Hi mrneduc,

I too prefer Wockhardt and have to take three 25mcg tablets at once for my dose. They only do the 25mcg size. To begin with, I did find them difficult to swallow; they seemed to stick in my throat. But then I found that by taking a big gulp of water first, then immediately popping all three pills in my mouth at once with another few gulps of water i had no problem at all. I think the first lot of water seems to smooth the way. I've never had a problem since.

Hope this works for you.

Best wishes

Caroline
