Yikes, the NHS endo just called and I answered

The NHS endo just called. I answered as I wanted to know my blood results. I’m on 2.5 grains of NDT (Nature Throid):-

TSH = undetectable (range: 0.2-4.5)

FT4 = 15 (range: 9-21)

FT3 8.5 (range: 2.6-6.2)

I’ll reduce my dose to 2 grains methinks.

He hasn’t got my scan results from the private hospital (Spire Murrayfield) yet. (Good luck with that.) So my diagnosis of Hashis is still up for debate.

He said all my vitamins are good - yay for supplements! Took great advice from SeasideSusie, Greygoose & Slowdragon on this 🙂

Thanks folks for all your support and advice on my previous post. 💜 I feel like I’m high maintenance and a bit scared of this treating yourself DIY approach. What I’ve learned though is that you need to help yourself.

I would suggest reducing by quarter of a grain rather than half a grain, unless you feel over-medicated. Then test privately in 6 weeks. Then reduce by another quarter tablet if necessary.

I agree with Humanbean. Only reduce by 1/4 of a grain at a time, leave 6 weeks before retesting, you don't want to miss your sweet spot :)

Good suggestion ladies re only change by a quarter and retest. I did similar but as I was increasing. My preferred dose turned out to be 1.75 but I followed instructions of going up to 2 then increase by quarters so I sailed passed where I needed to be! One quarter can make significant changes

I had been taking 3 grains of NDT last year for several months. My blood test results were similar to yours i.e. FT3 being way over the top of the range. I reduced to 2.5 and was fine with that.

I also noticed that I was losing too much weight as well, over the few months I had lost about 12/14lbs. My heart was also beating rapidly when resting as well.

You could cut out your half and see how you feel.

I have lost way too much weight 🙁

Exactly, this is a good indication of over medication. I remember my cousin who at the time never realized that she was hyperthyroid. She always was a size 6/ 8 and could never put weight on she was also always on the move.
