Need help with reading first blood test results!

Hi everyone,

Could really do with some help and advice please. This is my first post.

I've had all the classic symptoms of hypothyroid/hasimotos including goitre for the past few years. Dr did blood test and all came back normal!!! (I'm currently undiagnosed and not on any medication) I knew that wasn't right so started my research and found out loads of info from the internet and this forum. So had a medichecks blood test done. If someone could help me read them please so I have plenty of info when I go back to the doctors. Many thanks

Get the goitre checked out. My bloods were always normal but the slowly growing goitre turned out to be cancerous and had to be removed.

Hi annnsandell, thanks for the advice. I have a ultra sound every year to make sure all is ok. But not once has anyone in the medical profession mentioned hasimotos or hypothyroidism to me!!!! Have had to work it all out myself.

Doctors know nothing about Hashi's, that's why they never mention it, and rarely test for it - you might ask awkward questions they can't answer! lol

At the moment, your TSH is euthyroid (normal) and your FT4 a tad too high, causing high rT3. But, your FT3 is not quite mid-range, meaning that you have a conversion problem - like many Hashi's people.

The bad news is that 99.9% of doctors would ignore these results saying 'normal - no action'. You have Hashi's, but you don't appear to be hypo, yet. But, keep testing. :)

Your B12 is very high. Are you supplementing it? If not, you need to mention that to your doctor.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting This gives highest TSH and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

Is this how you did the test?

So your slightly raised TPO antibodies suggest you have Hashimoto's

But you can have slightly raised Antibodies with Graves too, just to complicate matters

Your TSH is low and FT4 high. But FT3 is low. This could be early stage Hashimoto's or possibly even Graves

Next step probably to test Graves antibodies just to rule it out

Private testing for suspected Graves - TSI or TRab antibodies

Your B12 is very high

Folate low

Vitamin D about right.

What supplements do you take, if any?

Did you miss off the ferritin result?

As your antibodies are raised you may find strictly gluten free diet helps

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first, just to rule it out

That's great info thanks.

Yes had bloods taken first thing after fasting. I'll get the other tests done to rule out graves.

No not taking any supplements.

Stopped eating gluten, milk products, soy and sugar a few weeks ago.

I have an appointment to see endocrinologist on 5th Nov and just trying to gather as much info as possible.

Biochemistry results are

CRP - High sensitivity 3.67 mg/1 0.00 - 5.00

Ferritin - 81 ug/L 13.00 - 150.00

Many thanks

Then you need to point out your very high B12 to GP and endo for further investigations

If you have not taken any multivitamins or any B vitamins in last 3-6 months?

Endo will almost certainly dismiss gluten and other food avoidance as rubbish. But many of us find it helps or essential

Ferritin is fine
