Functional Medicine

Has anyone tried Functional Medicine? Would you mind sharing your experience please? I’m thinking of switching but doing my research at the moment.

I've just made contact with a FM practitioner after reaching a stone wall with getting anywhere with conventional medicine. Having had my initial phone call I am actually really optimistic. I agreed to another blood draw which covers 75 markers and she added T3 uptake and reverse T3 as I haven't had them done privately and NHS won't. That alone gave me a thrill. Might not be my thyroid function causing my issues but at least someone is willing to look deeper than TSH.

Also have a small tree in questionnaires to fill in. My symptoms tick all the hypo ones and having briefly explored lupus, I can tick a lot of them too (there's a crossover of them though). All I end up getting from GPs is that there might be an emotional cause. I think any emotional fall out is due to feeling like crap for 18+ months!

Will report back after bloods are back and I have my first consultation. At least I am seeing someone who will look at me as an individual and not a reference range.

Would love to hear from other's experience though.

Thanks for all your replies. I’m seeing a Functional Medicine Practitioner for the first time next month. I need to know more about my symptoms and get a better interpretation of my levels. I need to take control of my health and get my life back to normal.

My whole protocol is based on FM. Not yet fully recovered but some improvement in last year or so.
