Vicky

When is the best time to take my 2x 5mcg T3?

That's a very individual thing, you'll need to see what suits you best.

Some people need to split the dose. Some people take one dose early morning, the second dose in the afternoon, or in the evening, or at bedtime. Some people can take the dose all in one and it not make any differrence.

I would follow the advice given in your previous post to start with 1 x 5mcg daily for 2 weeks then add the second 5mcg dose.

I had a TT Dec14 and always struggled on levo alone. I started on the German t3 this time last year having finally found a good endo. I was on 150 levo and advised to reduce to 125 for a week before taking t3 as my t4 level was just over range. First dose of t3 was 5mcg which i took in morning with levo for couple weeks then added in another 5mcg at lunchtime. Over the last year there have been lots of tweaks to both levo and t3 doses plus the timings of taking them. I have felt stable for the last 4/5 months though on the following regime:-

6am 100levo & 10t3

11am 5t3

3pm 5t3

It really is an individual thing though there is no one answer and it takes many months to find what suits best as endo wants bloods done with each "change"

I will also add that for the last week I've been taking Greek t3 (endo appt late and trying to eek german t3 out) and im surprisingly feeling hypo again (tired, brain foggy and my heart rate down by 10/20) until late evening as for me it seems to take longer to kick in than the German one. Looks like im going to hve to try tweaking timings on this one. So you see there are so many variables 😪

Would you mind sending me a pm of yr German supplier please as mine no longer sends to uk. (My endo gives me prescription to send) Many thanks and good luck on yr journey. Despite the ups n downs of the last year i am sooooo much better overall on t3 combo 😁 xx

Hi Vicky,

Sorry to jump in on your post but would you mind sending me a PM as to which pharmacy in Germany you now receive your T3?

Must be such a relief for you to finally get all this sorted. I'm to be on the same dose as you.

I managed to get my T3 prescription yesterday and then to get a special order with my local independent pharmacy but there's no way that I can maintain that price as I'm not working. I messaged Bennewitz Pharmacy, one of the ones mentioned on Thyroid Uk, but never got a reply.

Good luck with your treatment.

If the pharmacy supplies only with a prescription, there is no need to send a PM - just post the name!

Have a look on Thyroid UK's own website for some possibilities:

Thyroid hormones are best taken at least 3 hours after food and 1 hour before eating. This makes taking multiple doses difficult. It is therefore more convenient for most people if all thyroid hormones are taken as a single daily dose. Some people find that this cause rapid heart rate etc and they have to move to splitting their T3 into several doses.

My suggestion is that you introduce the T3 5 mcg with your thyroxine. If that goes well then add the second 5 mcg at the same time. Only if it causes problems do you need to split the dose.
