optimum time for T3 dose

I've received good advice from people on here, regarding vitamin/minerals and optimum levels of, etc, and I recently started-3 weeks- adding 5mcg T3 to my thyroxine (100mcg reduced from 125mcg at suggestions on here). I have a 3-month trial.

I take them together at the moment, at around 5-6 am. Is this ok, or should the T3 be taken at a different time, and if so, why. I think I do feel better, but it's early days!

Any help warmly received!

When would be a good time to do a thyroid levels test?

Hi needlewoman,I am just two weeks into 6.25mcg t3 added to my 125 Levo.I take them both on rising and I am greatly improved from where I was.I know lots on here who split the t3 dose and take half on rising and half 8 hours or so later.Glad to hear you feel some improvement also.

I am going to retest once I’ve been on the combo therapy for about 8 weeks or so.

Thanks! Wasn't sure what to do-not having had any guidance from the Endo! I inadvertently bought two Medichecks tests in November, so I still have one to use before end of Feb, so I'll do it in a month, should have a better idea of levels then too! I already take a cocktail of drugs at bedtime, so prefer to take it in the morning early, then go back to sleep for a bit to give it time to work!

Were you on Levothyroxine long before you decided to add t3?

in reply toSovietSong

Yes! in 1981 I had an overactive thyroid, brought on by stress when my Dad died. It was brought under control over 18 months, with Neo mercazole, then I was fine until 2000 when I had a thyroid nodule. So I've been underactive ever since! In 2021 following an early breast cancer and lumpectomy, I was put on an aromatose inhibitor-anti oestrogen meds, and that has sent my readings haywire, BP up, Cholesterol up, no oestrogen with all it's manifestations, etc. Hence the Endo visit to try and get sorted out!

Basically whatever works best for you is fine....so long as the total dose is correct for you.

We are all different so cannot be calibrated to a set point like a machine!

I need high dose T3-only and take it in a single dose at bedtime....we are all different

Splitting didn't work for me.

Listen to your body, it will soon tell you if something isn't right....advice from an old doctor friend!

Test at 9am at least an hour away from food and drinks....24 hrs after previous levo dose and 12 hours after T3

We need to be on a steady dose for at least 6 weeks before testing.

It sounds as if you are doing fine

thank you!! Fingers crossed!

How did you know it didn’t work for you? Did you still have symptoms until you went to one dose?
