Blue Horizon results after discontinuing NDT - follow up post!

Briefly, my private CFS gp felt that I was hypo, which is very common in CFS and she had suggested I take NDT, which I slowly built up to 1.5 grains per day, 1 grain upon rising and 1/2 grain at midday.

I had an episode in A&E just over 2 weeks ago and the bloods they took suggested that I'm hyper. I understand that the bloods could have been taken too close to my last NDT dose, which would falsely suggest hyper...

My Blue Horizon results have just come in and they too suggest that I'm hyper, among other things... The test was done 2 weeks after my last dose of NDT. My NHS gp prescribed 5 mg Carbimazole and I took only one 2 weeks before the B H test.

I'm attaching the test together with their comments and I would really appreciate the input of you experts out there! By the way, I take 100mg of magnesium every evening, but I do have chronic kidney disease so that could be the link, but if that's the case I don't know what to do about it. Thank you very much! Lynn

(I've added the results as a photo and I really do hope it works!)

Your magnesium is extremely low .....ask GP to investigate

It could be a lab error

You could drop your NDT down to 1 grain a day, Your FT3 and FT4 results are only slightly over the range. I assume your GP didn't realise you were taking NDT or he wouldn't have prescribed carbimazole. I don't think you should take it, just take less NDT instead. Did the NDT help with the CFS? I have a friend with CFS and I always wonder whether she would benefit from low level NDT, but she has never tried it.

Hi eeng, yes I think I'll do that until I hear from my CFS GP. No my GP doesn't know, but it looks like I'm going to have to come clean.

It's not uncommon for people with ME to have normal bloods, and yet suffer from hypo and although it hasn't helped me yet I think it's important to try everything in order to see some improvement. Thank you very much for replying.

Do you have any labs from before you started NDT?

Hello greygoose,

The results I was diagnosed on were from bloods done in 2015 when my TSH was 2.1 (range 0.55-4.78) and T4 was 12 (range 9.0-23). In February '18 my Free T4 was 15 (range 11.0 - 22.0) and my TSH was 1.3 (range 0.27 - 4.20). I have both hypo and hyper symptoms as in feeling the cold especially in hands/feet, terrible brain fog, severe weight loss and hair shedding in large quantities from all over my head, hot flushes and night sweats, fatigue, how could I almost forget fatigue! All in all I'm feeling very ill. Thank you for your help!
