My legs are so painful, thighs knees and balance awful. What vitamins aswell as levothyroxine are best to take?

I have been on thyroxine for 8 years and have never been told how to take it. It’s a constant battle with my GP as they want to keep me hypo and I want to take more.

I have learnt loads from this site already

You really need to test your vitamins and minerals to know what you need. Always advised on here are

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

To maximise absorption, you need to take your levo on an empty stomach, with a large glass of water, and wait at least an hour before eating or drinking anything other than water. Wait two hours before taking any other supplements or medication; and at least four hours before taking vit D, iron, calcium, oestrogen or magnesium.

I don't suppose they told you how to take the test, either. None of them know that. It's a patient-to-patient tip and not for their ears! Make sure you have your blood draw early in the morning - before 9 am - and fast over-night. Leave 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the blood draw. That way you will get the highest TSH and the lowest FT4, and the best chance of getting an increase in dose.

SeasideSusie has advised you about getting tests, but there are some supplements you can take without testing, such as vit C and magnesium.

Others to think about are zinc and selenium. You might care to get tested for those, too, before supplementing. :)

I really wouldn't recommend that. High Street pharmacies and Health Food shops rarely have what we want - your certainly shouldn't go to Holland and Barrett, if that's what you're thinking. The quality just isn't there. You could do far better to look on Amazon. More choice, better quality, more competitive prices.

And, with supplements, you shouldn't start taking them all at the same time. You should leave about two weeks between starting each one, so that if there's a problem, you know which one it is causing it. So, you have plenty of time to make your choice. :)
