My Doctor has told me to take 75 mcg/ 50 mcg Levothyroxine on alternate days.
Is it ok to take 100 one day and 25 the next ?
I really would like to use up the tablets I have and not waste them.
Thanks xxx

You mean 2 x 25 mcg tablets? That would be fine.
I was thinking more, a 100 tablet one day , then a 25 tablet the next. Do you think that would be ok ?
No, because that would give you a decrease in dose. Why would you want a decrease in dose?
Oh, sorry! I misread your post!!! Oh, sack cloth and ashes! I'm so sorry. Yes, 100 mcg + 25 mcg would be fine, would come to the same thing.
Many thanks Greygoose. You had me for a moment! I’m a maths teacher and I thought I was going crazy!
Thanks for your response, you’re a star 🌟
Well, as you probably noticed, maths is not my subject! lol No, I just read it quickly and thought it said 100 one day, and 50 the next, hence my confusion. I should have read more carefully.
It's fine.
What else you could try doing is splitting the 100 pill in two (usually they come pre-splitted but depends on your specific brand) and take 50/50+25, as instructed.
Over that short interval it's the same, anyway.
Are they the same brand of Levothyroxine?
Many people find Levothyroxine brands are not interchangeable. Once you find a brand that suits you, best to make sure to only get that one at each prescription. Watch out for brand change when dose is increased or at repeat prescription. Many patients do NOT get on well with Teva brand of Levothyroxine. Though it is the only one for lactose intolerant patients
You will need bloods retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change
All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
See you are also on T3, so make sure to take last dose of T3 is approx 12 hours prior to test
Important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Have these been done recently? Add results and ranges if you have them
Morning SlowDragon,
Thanks for your detailed reply.
No they are different brands but to be perfectly honest, whatever the brand, I’ve not felt an ounce of improvement no matter what brand I’ve taken or what dosage I’ve taken since being diagnosed.
My GP has given me some T3 as he says I’m not converting well. Latest results received last week, on 75 Levothyroxine and 12.5 T3:
TSH 0.018 ( 0.27-4.2)
FT4 21.3 (12-22)
FT3 4.66 ( 3.1-6.8)
Folate 12.1 ( 2.91-50.0)
Vitamin D 79.1 (50.0-200.0)
B12 and Iron very good, near top of range.
I have been supplementing every thing advised to , for a year or so now, but it looks like my Vitamin D and Folate are still low. Would that be why I feel Levothyroxine doesn’t have any affect on me , do you think?
Before adding T3, my FT3 was 4.2 , the 12.5 T3, barely seems to have made an impact as I was surprised it only took my level to 4.66. My doctor told me to increase to 18.75.
Any thoughts, gratefully received, 😘
Do you supplement a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid? This helps keep all B vitamin levels up including B12. So you may find you don't need separate B12 supplements
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Vitamin D still likely too low, Aiming to improve to around 100nmol. Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is good as avoids poor gut function. Suggest you increase supplement for 2-3 months and retest. It's trial and error what dose each person needs. Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there. Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Personally I would stick on one brand of Levothyroxine and definitely avoid Teva
Are you on strictly gluten free diet or tried it?
Yes I’m on a gluten free diet, started 3 weeks ago, and my gut felt instantly better once I started. No bloating, gas or uncomfortable feelings any more, that would start pretty much instantly finishing my meal. This I will definitely stick to . It’s pretty easy to stick to as I’m on a low carb diet too to try to shift some of my weight. 3 weeks in and I’ve lost 11 pounds, so I’m really pleased it’s working.
I’m taking Cytoplan vitamins, methyl folate and vit D with D3+K2 and magnesium. Also have individual B vitamins, also Cytoplan. I’m doing everything I can because I want to feel well again.
Thanks for all your help and support SlowDragon, I really appreciate it. Just thought, where should my folate be in the range ? Despite supplementing for over a year it still isn’t half way in the range?
Many thanks also for the links. I will start working my way through them 😊
Delighted to hear gluten free is helping so much
Don't cut the carbs right out. We need some carbs to help conversion apparently.
Well i think ideally folate should be above half way in range .
But I find, because I supplement vitamin B complex and therefore stop 3-5 days before test (because of biotin) , folate is usually only just half way. I assume when taking daily it's a bit higher. I only take one tablet of Igennus Super B per day - full recommended dose is two per day.
Better You vitamin D mouth spray is good as avoids poor gut function. They do one with K2 in it or you can supplement separately
Daily Vitamin C helps support adrenals
Probiotic is good for improving gut biome.
Thanks so much SlowDragon. You have helped me so much. I feel at my age 61, I should know all this ! But hey, you’re never too old to learn.....
Have a lovely weekend despite the rain that pouring down here ☔️
