Lowering Dosage?

My daughter is on 100 mcg. of Synthroid everyday and her Endo said it needs to be lowered. So she told my daughter to once a week only take a half tablet. Seems to me that taking 50 mcg one day and six days 100 mcg. doesn't really lower it much. Does anyone have a comment on that. Much appreciated.

You're right, it doesn't. But why does he think she needs to lower it at all? It's only a small dose to begin with. Sounds as if he's just changing things to justify his existence!

Thank you for your response. I am going to try and get more info from my daughter and ask her to get her lab results.

That's a very good idea. :)

Also get the ranges as labs differ and having ranges makes it easier for members to comment upon the results.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.

Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4, plus vitamins

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting.

If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, and if on T3 don't take in 12 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get tested.
