Latest results on 100t4+15t3 t3 taken 12h before test and t4 27h.

Tsh 0.01

Ft3 5.6 (3.6-6.3)

Ft4 19 (12-22)

I'm not feeling well. Tired, snappy, my period is irregular again (it was before medication), aches. What can I do? Can I change dose in any way to try to feel better?

Would be most thankful if anyone could help me.

Hi Clara,

So sorry you are feeling unwell, can I ask how long you have been on that dosage of T4 and T3 and what the dosage was previous to this, and why are you on levothyroxine, ie thyroidectomy due to Graves?

Just on initial thoughts, 15mcg, is quite a high dose of T3 the active hormone, usually T3 is introduced because you do not convert T4 well, but it is usually done by small increments.

Are you still under care of consultants, or GP.

I had a total thyroidectomy due to Graves, and initially I was put on 125mcg T4, it has been reduced over the last 2 years to 100mcg 6 days per week so roughly 85.7 mcg per day.

I am surprised you have been tested at all for your FT3, I have never succeeded in convincing my GP /consultant to test for it, so well done for that.

Since my thyroidectomy, although on the whole I feel ok....it's just ok, I have put on about 18lbs and am still having problems with blood pressure which is being looked into presently.

I've been on the dose for 8 weeks. Could it be low progesterone that causes my period to come early and the weight gain?

Those results aren't too bad at all, certainly not the low FT3 you were expecting when you posted a few days ago. Your FT4 is 70% through the range and FT3 74% through the range.

Having a very quick look at some of your previous posts, your FT3 tends to be pretty stable at around 5.6ish

4 months ago you had on 100 t4 and 18.75 t3 :

Tsh <0.03

Ft4 17.9 (10-19.8)

Ft3 5.7 (3.5-6.5)

and 6 weeks prior

on 112,5 t4 12.5 t3

Tsh <0.03

Ft4 20.3 (12-22 )

Ft3 5.9 (3.1-6.8 )

A couple of weeks ago you suspected low ferritin, did you ask for an iron panel and full blood count as suggested?

What about Vit D, B12 and folate - what are your levels, are you supplementing?

I am supplementing b12, vit d and will have iron tested next week.

Do you think I should stay at this dose or can I increase any.

Those results don't show a need to increase either really.

What are your B12 and Vit D levels and what dose supplements are you taking? And what about Folate, B12 and Folate work together.

Sorry, no idea. Not something I've looked into.

Yes, will have that done next week. Had bit D, b12 and folate taken in beginning of spring and all was OK.

GP opinion that all is OK or did you put your levels on the forum and you were advised they were optimal by members? OK and optimal are very different.

Optimal at that time. Since then I've been supplementing.

What are your antibodies levels like?

Presumably you are still strictly gluten free?

Clara9 profile image
Clara9 in reply to SlowDragon

No, I'm not any more since I didn't notice any difference. My antibodies are within limits now. But I'm not sure if they tested both.

You might find it necessary to be gluten free on T3

Antibodies may have risen if back on gluten too.

I just had blood test after eating gluten again for 4 months.

T3 is the active hormone and yours is good. As you still have symptoms of low thyroid you could consider thyroid hormone resistance, also known as impaired sensitivity to thyroid hormone.

With it you may need very high levels of T3 and the treatment is a single daily dose of T3.
