Hi all I am new to this group. I have a interactive thyroid and am on levathyroxine (spelling may be wrong). I am trying to lose weight which is proving difficult does anyone else have this problem.

Hi Avisrose, weight gain and the inability to lose weight are two of the many symptoms of having an underactive thyroid and could mean you are not on the correct dose of Levothyroxine. It would help if you could post your latest thyroid function test results plus the ranges - the numbers in brackets. This will give a better picture of what is happening. You are entitled to a copy of your results under the Data Protection Act. Some surgeries make a small charge for this.

Welcome to our forum,

The first thing I would advise is to get a new blood test. If GP wont do all of the following, those he doesn't do you can get privately. We have labs who do home finger pin-prick tests.

You need - always at the very earliest and fasting (you can drink water) TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies. GP should test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

If we take levothyroxine we'd allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose and test and take afterwards.

Put your results onto a new post for comments.

When I next go to my GPS I will get my results and post them.

That's good. You can tell him that you will request a copy for each blood test so that you can collect them without asking him each time for your own records.

Copy and paste your results onto a new page as others are better than me with results. You need to add the ranges to your results and the ranges are in brackets after the results. Labs differ in their machines and ranges are different. The following is an example:-

TSH 2.6 (ref range 0.4-4.9)

To add the ranges, click on 'More' and select edit and add them in.
