T4 & T3 recall

For anyone taking T4 or T3 manufactured at Westminster Pharmaceuticals, LLC, they are recalling Levothyroxine and Liothyronine tablets in 15 mg, 30 mg, 60 mg, 90 mg and 120 mg doses. They are all packed in 100-count bottles. Here's a link: abc13.com/health/thyroid-me...

Peace be upon you

The recall is of Westminster's desiccated thyroid product - which contains T4 and T3. I don't know if the company handles any plain T4 or T3 products but, even if they do, they are not the subject of the recall.

Dear GKeith,

When you wrote liothyronine 15 mg, 30 mg, 60 mg, 90 mg and 120 mg, did you mean micrograms instead of milligrams?

No - that was NOT what was meant.

The recall is of "Levothyroxine and Liothyronine tablets" - which is a somewhat bizarre way of referring to desiccated thyroid. Such products are still produced in doses based on grains. (One grain is sometimes 60 milligrams, sometimes 65 milligrams.)

So tablets are indeed manufactured in doses of 15 mg, 30 mg, 60 mg, 90 mg and 120 mg.

Right you are micrograms.

NO! You were right to begin with GKeith - they are in milligrams. :-)

Desiccated thyroid products are always in milligrams or grains.

Right, sorry, my mind wanders sometimes. mcg is micrograms.

Which is why I almost always type "micrograms" in full! Except when expressly quoting something else. It is far too easy to make a mistake. :-)
