I have just been the Docs as I had a sore throat and painful ear that feels like it is filling up when I blow my nose , my neck glands were sore to , but as usually when you go your throat isn't sore and the glands gone , my ear was still sore , however he said he couldn't see anything and it is probably a virus , I have had lots and lots of hair in my brush so wondered if it was my Thryoid, I needed my Thryoid checking so he did that and other tests to , one being Ferritin which I havn't had tested before .
The next day sore throat ear ect..... now my back at bust level is sore .
The Docs hasn't phoned me regarding results so I presume it's ok , anyone else had this result of Ferritin before ?.

The looks ok but not Ferritin.

As you are already on Levothyroxine the TSH is possibly too high
You need FT4 and FT3 tested. Just TSH is inadequate
But your ferritin seems extremely high. This may be due to hemochromatosis. High ferritin (iron overload) can be a cause of hypothyroidism. Ask for referral to haematology for futher testing
Do you know if you have autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
Thank you for your reply , I am live in France and they only check TSH and I tried to get T3 and T4 but he said only TSH is needed , my Tinitus is really loud at the moment especially in the sore ear , maybe I should go back to see him .
I live in France, too. And if you insist they will usually test FT4 and FT3. I've always managed to get it done. And, if he really won't test them, ask at the lab if they will do them if you pay. Some will, some won't.
Why don't you go and see an endo? You don't need a GP referral in France. Just pick your endo and make an appointment.
I've seen four endos, and I wouldn't give you two sous for any of them! Two were recommended by my GPs at the time - and, I have to say, the one in Paris wasn't too bad, but still ignorant. And the other two I saw in hospital on two occasions when I just happened to be in hospital. It's not easy to find a good one, even in France.
But, the advantage in France is that you don't have to stay with an endo if he's no good. You just look for a new one, no questions asked.
Well, it's ignorance, same as anywhere else. They just don't know that much about it. However, at least the endos here don't tend to be diabetes specialists, like in the UK. They do know something about thyroid, just not enough.
For example, I didn't have any trouble getting diagnosed, but after that, the endo just didn't know how to treat optimally. The endo I saw in Paris said I could have T3 if I wanted it - but also said it wouldn't do me any good! lol The second endo I saw in hospital quite understood why I was on T3 only, and told me she learnt a lot from her patients, who learnt about thyroid on on-line forums. But, she still believed that a TSH below 0.25 was very, very dangerous. They do try, but they just don't have the knowledge.
That CRP is very high, a lot of inflammation, there. So, that's why your ferritin is so high. I hope they do call, they should be doing something. If they don't call you, you call them!
Just rang after me ringing , says it's because I have the sore throat virus and the levels are not to high , it should go in a few days and to take the prednoilone for 2 more days , he doesn't seem bothered by it .
