Hi everyone, does anyone have an idea how to reduce cholesterol without statins?

In theory if you are properly medicated for thyroid condition then your cholesterol should reduce. What is your cholesterol level, do you know your HIgh and Low CLs figures, and ratio. Has your doctor said something re statins etc? Yes they will reduce cholesterol but it is now realised that cholesterol is far more important in the rest of the body, especially the brain, so low cholesterol is actually a bad idea...statins did me harm taking them for 12 + years. Thankfully the days of promoting artificial low fat products, and avoiding natural animal fats, is behind us, our diet does relatively little to alter cholesterol levels, just a difference in calories.

I had a comprehensive eye test because my sight was deteriorating rapidly (probably undermedicated, which I am addressing) they picked it up in these tests. I have bloods on Monday to test for it, just wanted to get ahead of the game incase Dr wants to prescribe statins. Interesting new research on Cholesterol, I will do some reading thank you for your time Judith.

its most likely cholesterol is high due to hypothyroid

Statins are not recommended while you remain under treated for thyroid

I was preparing with a battle with my husband’s GP on statins as they had told him that his cholesterol was high (5.7). He has no history of heart problems so should not be offered them. I have read Dr. Kendrick’s work (which I thoroughly recommend) and many other studies and THINCS. I had some quotes all lined up but when my husband said that I would not let him take statins the GP just said ‘ok’. When I was told that my cholesterol was high I said ‘good’ and the matter was dropped. A worrying study I found last week from Mcmasters (?) was that statins interfere with the function of insulin; it is known that statins, among other things, can cause diabetes. My own, unmedical, view is that statins are good; we need them and they are made by our bodies for vital functions.

Thanks Londinium, the doctor is not worried as I am now on the AIP diet so all those lovely things are off the list. We will watch carefully though.

This research points to Levothyroxine not adequately lowering cholesterol. eurekalert.org/pub_releases...
