hi there - i received my thiroyd tablets about 5 months ago - they dont expire until next year. however due to the extremely hot weather we are getting, is it possible they could lose their potency as i dont feel they are working as well as they did last year
thiroyd: hi there - i received my thiroyd tablets... - Thyroid UK
thiroyd
Ive never taken throid but I’ve always wondered that about my own (Armour, T3 and before that Levo) but have come to the conclusion mine haven’t despite being left in suitcases in hot locations and sometimes travelling on more than one holiday if I’ve taken back up supplies. In contrast to this conclusion, I do keep T3 in the fridge at home however (just in case)!!!
I use Thiroyd and have not noticed reduced potency, it seems to work just fine. If you are feeling more tired than usually, perhaps it’s the weather, assuming you are in the UK?
I sleep very poorly these days and it leaves me feeling sluggish, like having a mild hangover. Hot weather is not for me - tired of drinking insane amounts of water and popping mineral tablets. My very healthy husband feels like rubbish too, so I know it’s not me & my thyroid.
When I got my Thiroyd I repackaged it into a dark glass jar. Every month or so I take a small handful of tablets and put them in a small container, that I use daily. So when I take my daily dosage I don’t open the glass jar too much and the big batch stays fresh.
If you think that the problem is the medication then you could try a small increase in dosage and see if that helps. Please let us know when you figure it out.
I take thyroidS and always store it in the fridge to try and keep degradation to a minimum. Some use the freezer. Not sure how effective either are I have a feeling Stop the thyroid madness recommends it. I had a bit of a blip on thyroidS and had to increase the dose from 1.25 grains to 2.25 grains despite feeling great on 1.25 fur 3 years, but I don’t think the meds got weaker with time but it was something to do with me needing more of it, quite what I still have no idea. The hot weather seems to have improved my wellbeing no end but I still need the higher dose been on it for about a year now.
This site says max storage temp is 86deg F for all 3 main thyroid medications - NDT, levothyroxine and Liothyronine
