Over the last few months or so I have had a peculiar type of pain on one side of my face; across my cheek bone. It's a cross between an ache and a tingling sensation. It's been getting worse over the last couple of weeks. I'm wondering if it could be either neuralgia or shingles? The skin on and around my cheek has a kind of wrinkly effect. It's actually quite scary as if it's not an infection or virus or something, it means my face is losing bone mass. If that makes sense. Any advice/info welcome please

Pain on one side of my face
Can't help with the skin issue but could you have a sinus infection? kept having problems on one cheek and occasionally would become warmer than the other side and went on for for a couple of years. It was actually one of my wisdom teeth in the upper jaw who's roots had pretty much impacted through the jaw and was causing constant infection into my sinus cavity in that cheek. Had the tooth out and never came back again?
Just a thought as had similar type of pain all the time.
Another of my wisdom teeth never grew out at all and although it needs to be removed no one will touch it with a barge pole as it sitting too close to the nerve. When the tooth moves sometimes it seems to hit the nerve for a period of time also causing tingling odd sensations although generally gets better again after a while - not sure if a wisdom tooth can do the same on the top though as not sure what nerves are there but just thought I'd mention a couple of things outside of the box that could be cause?
Have all your wisdom teeth been removed or out or have you had any dentistry work recently. I know one dentist went a bit too far once and was worried the nerve would never work again and caused pitting and strange sensation in my chin but did clear up finally after a month or so???
Thanks for your reply. I have had problems with my teeth lately. My 4 wisdom teeth are long gone, but last week I saw a dentist for the first time in about 3 years. I had felt so ill & depressed & couldn't be bothered to do anything apart from the basics, but as I'm now feeling much better in myself I decided to start taking care of myself. I have to admit that I let myself go badly through the decades of my chronic thyroid illness. I'm actually wondering now also if I'm on a bit too much T3. I only take T3, 40mcg a day in one dose. My face has lost a lot of weight and I think that's the reason the skin on both cheeks is looking quite wrinkled. I think I will actually make an appointment with a GP; although I hate them; but I'm concerned it's a virus or something a bit sinister.
You can always get your own thyroid labs tested and see where you're at - I think the thyroid ultravit is on offer this month with medichecks. Personally, when I was on T3 only, I couldn't take it all in one go and had to split it up but I also had to start taking more T4 again once my thyroid stopped producing it for itself as felt bad.
did the dentist do any work or see anything that needed doing?
I hate it when I look more wrinkled from losing weight - typical hey
I know it's hard when you feel so ill, it's easy to stop bothering so be good to yourself and hope you get to the bottom of it soon
Update - I haven't taken any vitamins or minerals today and only half of my normal 40mcg a day dose of T3. No pain in the side of my face. So it's either one of my supplements I've overdosed on or too much T3. Will have to add in one at a time slowly to check what it is causing the pain/tingling down left side of my face. Thanks Saggyuk
I often have weird reactions to vitamins - especially any with sweetners such as mannitol, stevia, and anything derived from wheat/barley such as maltodextrin etc etc.
Yes, it could be. I could never stomach magnesium although often recommended. Just had it tested and top of range without supplements so explains why I felt bad when I did.
Glad it's stopped and hopefully easy to work out which it might be
