Thought I would say a quick hello with a rather long post!

I broke my ankle in 2016 and when I was in hospital I was diagnosed with toxic Multinodular goitre and told I had hyperthyroidism causing AF. Sent home with Carbimazole with a view to titrate.

Looking back I realise I had symptoms previously but I had put them down to the menopause!

Since then I seem to spiral from one end of the scale with very extreme symptoms to the other end equally extreme, never feeling well and sometimes feeling extremely unwell. And 4 stones heavier!!

Anyway Carbimazole in varying doses has never stabilised things and when I saw the Endo in Jan he started block and replace,20mg Carbimazole twice daily and 100mcg Levo once daily.

5 weeks ago I had extreme hyper symptoms and they reduced Levo dose to 50mcg.

Now I’ve started having hypo symptoms.

After reading the really informative posts on here and the Thyroid UK website I went to the GP yesterday asking for full blood tests but she says that my blood test last week was normal, and antibodies would have been tested in 2016 and they wouldn’t have changed since then.

Last weeks test was

TSH 1.45 (.27 - 4.2)

T4 14.7 (12-22)

Although this was not after fasting, it was late morning and about 4 hours after Carbimazole and Levothyroxine.

(After reading posts on here, I am now taking Levo first thing on it’s own then remaining tablets an hour later).

I’ve ordered Blue Horizon test which should arrive today.

Sorry for the long and rambling post, but can anyone suggest anything else I could/should be doing?

Many thanks. Very best wishes.

"antibodies would have been tested in 2016 and they wouldn’t have changed since then."

GP is talking twaddle, very common when thyroid problems involved. Antibodies fluctuate all the time so of course they will change.

It's quite likely you could have autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's, but wait for your new test results, post them on the forum and we can go from there. Which test did you order?

Thank you for your reply SeasideSuzie. I did wonder about the GP.

I’ve ordered the Thyroid plus 10 from Blue Horizons.

It has just arrived. I will post the results on here when I get them.

Have you already had Vit D tested? That's not included in the Thyroid Plus 10 but it's an important test to do.

No, I haven’t had Vit D tested.

GP said no one in UK needs to be tested........good job I’ve found this forum!

I’ll get that tested too.

Thank you so much SeasideSusie x

Doctors never cease to amaze me

GP said no one in UK needs to be tested

does he mean because we've all got good levels or we're all deficient? And if we're all deficient how does he think we can supplement at the correct dose if we don't test. Jeez, what a donkey!

Donkey.....yes, one name I’m thinking of right now 😆😆😆

I’m so glad I’ve found this site.

We all have good levels was the reason given.

I couldn't put the one I was really thinking of :D

Does he not realise we live in the northern hemisphere and can only make natural Vit D (if we're lucky) during May-October roughly.

I've actually got a copy of a letter that was sent from the Health Dept a few years ago to every medical professional in the UK that states most people are deficient and there are certain categories that should have their levels tested. Maybe he had a day off when that letter arrived!

I think I will make an appointment with the other GP when I get these blood results back 😆

I’ve contacted Blue Horizon to see if I can change this kit to one covering Vit D.

If not I’ll order another.

Thank you for your help x

If you can't change your test you can get a fingerprick blood spot test from City Assays for £29

vitamindtest.org.uk/index.h...

They are the path lab at City Hospital, Birmingham, who offer this test to the general public.
