an email from Chris Exley, he is a world expert on aluminium

Dear Janet, thank you for your message.

I have been studying and researching the biology of silicon for more than 30 years and there is only one way that silicon could influence thyroid metabolism and that is by influencing aluminium toxicity in the body. It can only influence aluminium toxicity through its actions as silicic acid, not silica. Silica taken orally will release very small amounts of silicic acid but in the main it will move through the gut unchanged to be excreted in the faeces. Silica is a very 'sticky' substance which means that many things in the gut may adsorb to its surfaces and thus it may help to remove gut contents via the faeces.

Silicon in silicon-rich mineral waters, see attached, is in the form of silicic acid which essentially follows water throughout the body being excreted eventually in the urine and also in sweat. If you drink a silicon-rich mineral water on a regular basis, for example 1L/day, then your body fluids will equilibrate to a a higher level of silicic acid then would normally be the case and provide a constant protection against the possible toxicity of aluminium.

Aluminium has been shown to influence thyroid metabolism and so it is not a surprise to hear that regular drinking of a silicon-rich mineral water might benefit individuals suffering from issues relating to their thyroid.

I hope that the attached Fact Sheet and the posts on my medical blog ( hippocraticpost.com/?s=Exley ) will be helpful to you and those using your various forums.

Do feel free to get back in touch should you have any further questions.

Best wishes

Chris

you are right of course reallyfedup, but it won't happen anytime soon. Prof Exley suggests that we use silica water, (volvic, fiji water, and acilis - acilis is the strongest ) and a daily dose will help to detox what we are holding and also prevent us absorbing more.

Out of the three mentioned have only come across Volvic. Are the other two readily available?

Online, yes. Search and yea shall find. :-)

I kept wondering if there were a way of adding silica to water - avoid deliveries of vast quantities of water, avoid use of many large plastic bottles, etc. Throw in a little silica tablet to our drinking water. Or even have a dosing device plumbed in.

Thanks! You have been great with information for me and extended family over the last few weeks! I drink a lot of mineral water as don't do tea and only coffee socially though my garage know I love hot chocolate! Will give volvic a go whilst I'm searching!

San Pellegrino is good - and in a glass bottle. If I have an upset - I have Crohns - it certainly does the job ! I have often posted about Prof Exley as he was involved in the Aluminium crisis in Camelford when I was living in Cornwall :-)

Thanks for that! My son and I often do a meal deal between us! Either of us does the sandwhich, he does the the other part and I usually pick up the drink which you have recommended! I sinned though this week and picked up a ginger beer!

Sins are good :-) I have had friends staying from the UK and we have wined and dined every day. Their generosity was endless .... now for the FAST :-(

sorry helvella but according to prof Chris Exley this will not do the job, it has to be mineral water with silicic acid in it, not silica which is the solid form in supplements and herbs. He has tested them all. I have got some of the acilis water and it is very nice, and had it delivered from the web page not from amazon as there is an offer on with postage. You are right of course about the plastic but to me it is worth it if it will protect against alzheimers and other nasty diseases that cost a fortune nationally and cause no end of suffering for everybody. Except big pharma I suppose. Prof Exley cannot get any grants for his research as nobody wants to hear the result and have to do something about it! We do have a whole house filter installed to remove chlorine and other stuff from our tap water, but it won't deliver the silicic acid, would be great if someone invents it though.

The reason I used the word "silica" is that Chris Exley says to look for "silica" content on the analysis of water.

My comment was meant as general indication of direction - not literal. In much the same way as we refer to iron in liver or even in ferrous sulphate.

There might not currently be a method of doing so, but I can imagine some means of adding silica as silicic acid being created.

Silicic acid is, perhaps surprisingly, readily available.

Even more surprisingly, at least to me, is the reason for it being available.

Silicol®gel – For IBS

Colloidal silicic acid gel for symptoms of IBS

avogel.co.uk/silicolgel/

Had no idea it was used medicinally.

Also found some more high silica mineral waters - though I doubt any is available in the UK:

Long Life mineral water- 48.10 mg / l m-silicic acid

Juvina mineral water- 56.3 mg / l m-silicic acid

Frankenmarkter mineral water- 38.00 mg / l m-silicic acid

we have fiji water in our local supermarket, Booth's, which is a north west business. Volvic has a little bit of silicic acid in it, and fiji water a bit more, the acilis is available either online through it's own site or from amazon. It is not cheap but since it apparently does a good job that is what I am using at the moment. Silica in a solid form will not work, it has to be the mineral water. Not supplements. There are some youtube videos online, and it is worth looking at them as it explains things better than I am doing!

Thank you so much! Will see what I can find.

I wonder whether eating horsetail would help. That's high in silica and grows everywhere that the soil is high in silica (esp in my vegetable beds!).

Just in case someone takes your suggestion and, without looking any further, consumes large quantities, I'll paste a little information about safety. Further research could prove these concerns overblown but I'd rather sound a note of caution than by silence let someone make a mistake. :-)

Wiki says:

Consumption

If eaten over a long enough period of time, some species of horsetail can be poisonous to grazing animals, including horses.[16][17] The toxicity appears to be due to thiaminase, which can cause thiamin (vitamin B1) deficiency.[16][18][19][20][16]

People have regularly consumed horsetails. The young plants are eaten cooked or raw, but considerable care must be taken.[16] For example, the fertile stems bearing strobili of some species are cooked and eaten like asparagus (a dish called tsukushi[21]) in Japan.[22] Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest eat the young shoots of this plant raw.[23]

Certain fish can cause the same problem, esp in cats.

Looks like you were spot on with that suggestion! :-)

thanks for all these suggestions, I am going to write again to the prof and ask if these products are useful or not, since he has said he checked them all out. I have always known that aluminium is bad, but only recently come across the articles and youtubes that spell out what is going on. It seems to me that there is a lot of health conditions that are caused and/or made worst by the aluminium, and that nobody wants to do anything about it. But we can help ourselves if we are made aware of the problem and that is why I have tried to pass on the information. What I want to find next is a list of all the products that contain aluminium and I am sure that there is a lot of them.

I like that too, and I think it is one of the better ones in regard to tiny plastic particles that is in some bottled water.

Hello, wondering if you received a response from Dr. Exley regarding some of the silica products discussed in the thread here? I too am wondering if there is an alternative to the bottled water, perhaps there is something not as effective but close? Someone above suggested Silicol Gel with Colloidal silicic acid. The website says: Each 100ml of Silicic acid gel contains 3.5g Silicon dioxide.

Anyhow, I am wondering what is the next best thing to the bottled water? Thank you!

Aluminium is in anti-perspirant though:/ I can't just have deodorant. Everything else I use on face, hair, hands and body is SLS etc free though. So if I drink Volvo or Fiji when I can that will help things? Thanks :)

kluang profile image
kluang in reply toLillie23

I'm not the expert, but it might help to some degree but I can't say for sure. I think that the aluminium lodges in the breast tissues from antiperspirant and I've personally not used it very often, although I do keep one in case I need it. I tried out a few different ones over the years from the health food shop and found one I like but it is only good for everyday use, and stressful occasions need the toxic one. The detox protocol is to drink a litre a day for 3 months and it is supposed to get rid of 80% of the aluminium in the body in that time, and then keep drinking it to stop it building up again.

Yes, exactly. I have hyperhidrosis that I have botox for and I tried bionsen a few months ago and although it smells nice and quite strong after a while it didn't mask the smell :(

I have been using coconut oil as deodorant anti perspirant for 4 years now, never lets me down, was very sceptical at first, tried while at home in case but I now have every confidence in, raw cold pressed unrefined coconut oil which I use in curries and sweet treats too, just a pea sized finger full rubbed in, replaced all the aluminium and clouds of spray everyone had to breathe, I recommend that you give it a try
