Thyroid UK has been approached by a journalist, Yasmeen Eltahan, at the City University of London who is looking to film a documentary about the link between body and mind (how your mind can manifest symptoms in the body) uni course, its being submitted as part of her studies and may be entered into competitions. It is not for general TV broadcast.
She would love to hear from more people if anyone would like to talk about their experiences. You can help her with the research without being in the documentary.
Yasmeen explained to me that while the body/thyroid dysfunction is 100% valid, certain life events may have triggered the thyroid condition. It does not apply to everyone, but it has been backed up by research.
The documentary will include psychiatrists validating those who live with autoimmune disease and their symptoms while also talking about the mind-body connection that isn't always considered.

She is looking for some insight into this and to chat to someone who fits this criteria. It can be 100% anonymous.

You know Lyn, with respect, I worry about this a little. Given the huge battles many thyroid patients encounter, sometimes for many years, in getting diagnosed or adequately treated, during which time many GPs are so keen to cite ‘depression’, ‘anxiety’, ‘post natal depression’, ‘menopause’, ‘empty nest syndrome’, ‘stress of work or family’. Perhaps the research would be better focussed on those without thyroid conditions?
I agree. I spent 15 years being pushed from one psych to a next, steadily making my way through all the medications towards Lithium. I never needed a psychiatrist, I needed T3. The less thyroid disease is associated with or treated by psychiatrists, the better.
So sorry Gcart, it does seem so unfair when in the midst of it. I promise there’s light at the end of the tunnel and you can get there. Persevere, be assertive, persist, and win!
