Thai Thyroid

I've recently had some blood tests with don't look too bad, I have posted them elsewhere on here. I was only tested for TSH and T4 but I'm still symptomatic i.e. constipated, food intolerances, stuffy nose with thick mucus, thinning eyebrows, lack of libido, Haemorrhoids, dizzy spells, brain fog being the main ones although I have a few others.

On the advice of a couple of people on here I've booked the Thyroid 11 test from Blue Horizons and I'm hoping the results of these tests will hopefully show whats wrong with me. I am aware that it's one thing getting an idea of my problems and a totally different thing getting my GP to medicate me.

My question would be how the authorities view carrying T3 into the country. Is it viewed as a drug or a supplement. I have an extended Thai family who will be visiting shortly and (depending on blood test results, advice on here and further appointments with my GP) I could get some T4/T3 brought over. I obviously wouldn't want to put anyone at risk of breaking any laws.

First of all Thai Thyroid isn't a 'drug' it is a thyroid hormone replacement.

Usually we are able to bring into the country products that are for our 'own use'. I am not sure what the 'rules' are for others but the customs might not bother.

Sotonowl, There are two main brands of desiccated thyroid from Thailand. One is called Thiroyd, the other is Thyroid-S. Desiccated thyroid products contain both T4 and T3, and in the UK, they would be classed as prescription medications. Many patients here like these Thai products.

We are allowed to import prescription medications for personal use, so as long as your relatives arrive at the airport with just a couple of bottles (usually a bottle would be 1,000 tabs), and not suitcases full, there hopefully wouldn't be any problem.

I have no idea what is available in Thailand that is the equivalent to our synthetic T4 (i.e. levothyroxine) or synthetic T3 (liothyronine) products. But I believe the same rule would apply if your relative/s were to bring these over too.

Not worth the risk really is it, think if I go that route i'll just buy online.

Sotonowl, If you decide to try self medicating because you can't get any treatment through the medical system, I'd strongly suggest starting on T4 only (levothyroxine). Desiccated thyroid doesn't suit everyone and is best tried only when all else fails.

Thanks for the reply Red Apple. I'm not at that point yet. Got a Blue Horizons kit arriving in a day or so. The nurse rang me today and booked a time for blood draw on Monday morning. So I'll post those results first on here then consult my GP. I've got food intolerances now, soon as I have a cuppa or eat something my nose starts going all stuffy. Could be leaky gut, could be thyroid problems I just don't know.

All I'm doing now is building layers of contingency and planning for everything, it's the Engineer in me.

To be honest, self medicating without seeing a Doctor would petrify me but I'll not rule it out completely yet. Roll on my test results next week.
