Possible thyroid condition

Hi,

Idk if anyone will read this but I really need help.

For the past four weeks, I’ve been really unwell. It all started on May 21st (only lasted for 4 days) when I had an abnormal bleed two weeks after my period.

My periods are normally regular and right on time, my cycle lasts 28 days and I bleed for 4-7 days heavily. For one cycle I bleed for 4 days then the next month I bleed for seven days.

I’ve been having problems with my stomach and periods for a couple of years now as my period has always been heavy and my cramps have been excruciatingly painful from the very beginning but since I had this abnormal bleed I’ve just been so unwell that period has just stopped and this has never happened to me before because I’m always regular.

For the last few years my mum and other people have always complained to me that I have no colour on my face my face is all white and I look sick but over the years I’ve had so many blood tests and they’ve always been fine except for the odd low vitamin D levels every now and then. Today is my first time getting my hormone levels checked.

Symptoms for the past four weeks:

Joint pain

Body shape has changed

Breasts are more firm/enlarged/heavier

Nipples are dry and darker than normal

I have been having pain/tightness/discomfort/twitching/hardness in my stomach (mostly my lower abdomen is swollen)

My stomach is usually very soft and I have extra back fat but all of that has gone since being unwell

Veins are more visible than normal in my breasts, legs and arms

My discharge hasn’t been normal either, it was white cottage cheese like and since yesterday it has turned into a light brownish colour

My cervix is more swollen than usual

I was feeling lightheaded/weak/numb

Neck/Back/Arms/Legs pain

Fatigue

Trouble sleeping

I’ve taken 6 pregnancy tests bc I thought I might be pregnant and all negative (3 at urgent care, 2 at a clinic and one clearblue digital test)

Also I have problems losing weight

If you think you may have a thyroid condition then you should get a full thyroid panel done which includes

TSH

FT4

FT3

Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies

Thyroglobulin antibodies

Your GP may only do TSH, or TSH plus FT4, but that won't be enough. You can do the full thyroid panel with one of our recommended labs Medichecks or Blue Horizon.

I don't know what is wrong with you, but if you have had long-term heavy bleeding associated with your periods then you could be anaemic. It can be devastating to quality of life if left untreated.

So you need to get your iron, ferritin, transferrin saturation, total iron binding capacity and a full blood count tested. Your doctor might do a ferritin or a haemoglobin test, but at least it's a start.

If you are hypothyroid then commonly found deficiencies, apart from iron, are vitamin B12, folate and vitamin D.

It really does sound like a pregnancy doesn't it from the symptoms you are giving us, I wonder if a scan might be worth doing?

I have a consultation with a clinic on Monday for a scan and to talk about my options if they find anything. I know for sure I don’t want to keep the baby if I am
