Has anyone tried the autoimmune protocol?

Hi, after being ill for around a year with hashi's and trying different combinations of supplements and diets, I am 2 weeks into AIP and feel amazing! No more dead legs, dead brain and everything else in between!! I was wondering if anyone else has tried it and what their experience is (I am hoping this isn't just a short lived good spell!!)

I've been aip for 9 wks. I've had small successes (no more mouth ulcers/cracks in corners of mouth, weight loss, no need for laxatives) but it is not really helping with what I consider my bigger issues (constant fatigue, ezcema, chronic candida, anxiety). It has been a mixed bag for me, I feel like it is a diet designed for richer people who have all the time and energy in the world to cook (I.e not a working mum). I have found it very hard to find the energy to cook fresh every meal and my shopping bill has increased by a quarter every wk.

However I have enjoyed being forced to eat super healthy and try new recipes. I am looking forward to reintroducing eggs and other stuff to open up my diet a bit. I must admit I have had a few slip ups and I was taking an expensive probiotic that I found out contained barley which isn't aip. I miss a glass of vino on a Friday night too!! 😂 I'm looking forward to getting my antibodies tested in a few wks to see if it has help reduce them. I'm glad you have had felt that it has been successful and long may it continue for you!!

Cheers

Chloe

Hi Chloe, I too have enjoyed eating super healthy and after being gluten and dairy free for a while it hasn't been too greater step for me. It is however a strain on the wallet (I work - but on a very low income) but I think a lot of what I have bought will last a while - flours, oils etc. I have in a short time seen great improvements in my eczema and fatigue and a whole range of symptoms and feel a new sense of energy and positive-ness! I have had a battle like so many on this amazing forum with doctors and accessing information and I have taken my own health into my hands, had private blood tests and addressed my deficiencies before embarking on AIP and it does seem to be working!

Thanks for sharing your experience. (I am reading lots and finding new foods -cauliflower rice is amazing!! There are lots of recipes out there that are affordable and enjoyable)

Very best of luck to you - we just can't give up trying!! Xx
