Cortisol levels
The reference range for cortisol is wide because cortisol levels vary throughout the day, at 9am your levels should be nearer 400-500 which is why you have been referred to an Endo - that's a switched on GP as most don't have a clue about cortisol levels! I'm guessing you are also having other symptoms such as fatigue, sleeping a lot, maybe weight loss, feeling dizzy? Hopefully you won't' have to wait too long as that is quite a low result. Have a look at the Addisons support group, there is also a Facebook Addisons group whic are very helpful.
i am on facebook addison’s group.
Many thanks I have had some peculiar things going on but weight gain not loss I am always hungry!
My Endo's always wanted Cortisol bloods done at 9 am as the peak Serem.
But I've read that Cortisol peaks an hour after waking, which for me would be about 8 am. Wonder if it makes much of a difference to results ?
because at 9am you should be nearer to 500 as that is when you have the most cortisol in your body naturally. there may be something wrong with your adrenal glads that needs investigating or you may need cortisol tablets. i take cortisol tablets in the form of hydrocortisone daily because my morning cortisol was low.
Hi Julie, what was your level?
