High thyroids: Hi im 46 and been with my partner... - Thyroid UK
High thyroids
Has your doctor commented on this? You could see your GP again and ask what other tests were done. Would it be wise to wait until you get your Thyroid condition treated? Do you have any blood tests results you could share for comment? You could ask for a copy (print out) of all your blood tests results with normal ranges and copy on here. Was it your TSH that was high? Did you have Thyroid Antibodies tested? What symptoms for you have?
Will the Consultant be testing your Adrenals? You could keep this in mind to ask about - if not mentioned at the appointment.
It helps me to write a list of all my symptoms and a list of all the questions I want to ask the Consultant - otherwise I usually forget something.
All the best with your appointment and getting a full and accurate diagnosis and also your plans.
Welcome to our forum.
Pregnancy difficulties, either conceiving or miscarrying, can be due to being hypothyroid. If you've not had a period you may not now be fertile.
First thing to do is to ask your doctor for a Full Thyroid Function Test. He or the lab may not do all of them but ask anyway. You need:-
TSH (short for thyroid stimulating hormone)
T3, T4, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies.
The blood test has to be at the earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and if you were taking thyroid hormones you'd allow a gap of 24 hours between levothyroxine (which you will be prescribed) and the test and take afterwards.
Ask GP to also test B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. Deficience cause symptoms too.
If the lab or doctor cannot test all of the thyroid ones you can get those tested through one of our private labs.
All tests for thyroid hormones have to be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and if you were diagnosed you'd follow the same procedure for each test but if you were taking thyroid hormones (levothyroxine) you'd allow a 24 hour gap between last dose and test and take afterwards. If you didn't follow this procedure as GP to test again. TSH drops throughout the day so that's why we advise the earliest appointment as most doctors only take notice of the TSH and T4 which isn't sufficient.
If you can get a print-out of your most recent results, with the ranges, from the surgery put them on a new post for comments. Ranges are important and the figures in brackets after the results so that members can respond.
Hi Weezybobs, I was in a similar position & discovered the balance of progesterone & estrogen is key. Most women ( and men) now more than ever in history are estrogen dominant . Learn about it from the best in the field, Dr.Sara Gottfried,M.D. Harvard & MIT trained OB/GYN
You'll see in the preview the topic under H 😊
Do not dispair, there is lots you can do to help.
Here is a link to a really good book full of useful information.
Hi.. I am new to Thyroid diagnosis, but have Sjorgens, endometriosis, Adenomyosis, and a few other conditions... The endo stopped ovulation for me over 10years ago and we were told we would never have children without ivf which we could not afford... However at some point after my last endometriosis removal I started ovulation so came off all my meds (was stable) and started trying for baby after 3 months.. We got pregnant straight away but lost at 5weeks. This was 2years ago almost exactly. I was38. Between then and now we have had a total of 7 losses all before 7weeks and my conditions have been getting worse... However just had thyroid bloods done and apparently I have Hashimotos... And it is very likely that this has been causing my losses... So until thyroid under control you would be unlikely to fall pregnant or stay pregnant.. However if you are not ovulating then that could be an issue in its self.. And age can hinder this as well as hormone inbalance and conditions like endometriosis. While your thyroid is being treated it is worth investigating the no periods as if you are not having periods you are not ovulating and without ovulation you cannot get pregnant regardless of any thing else that may be happening.
