Anxious , another one

I am always a anxious and sometimes depressed, I wake up in the morning full of anxiety and I have the most horrible dreams. Sometimes when I wake up I am exhausted. I see from other posts that this seems to be quite normal for people with an underactive thyroid. How can you overcome or cope with this?

It sounds as if you're under-medicated. Do you have your latest blood test results to share with us? Just post them on here, with the ranges, and let's have a look. :)

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

I see you had low vitamin D in the past. Are you taking an ongoing maintenance dose to keep levels up.

Low B12 is common when hypothyroid and when we get older too

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies.

Plus very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get antibodies tested at least once.

Hi guillemette, ah I can totally sympathise with you. I have experienced exactly the same and it's horrible. Unlike yourself I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, I have never experienced anxiety, panick low mood before but it all set in around 8 months ago my frees and tsh though throughout this time have been in normal range they have been nearer hypo levels. I tried cbt which was great in teaching me coping mechanisms but it would only slightly take the edge off. I am so much better now and only on the odd occasion I can feel it creeping back but mildly and I'm sure that's because my frees are nearer the upper normal range due to my dose change. Would be great if u could post your results 😊 I hope it subsides soon for you
